Somehow I never saw the reply to this years ago, and was searching for something else and ran across this thread, but I'll take the time to reply to the comment on my previous reply:
And? What's your point? You didn't make a connection to anything I said.

LOL, as soon as I saw the title of this thread I was going to link that video.
I don't know what this 4R70W is in, but there's plenty of them around, why not just get another one? If the trans is something special going in something special then get a JY case and swap internals. If it...

I even have a guy commenting on my blog post
"Bob was a mystery for me as well. Interesting project. The 5356 runs through the tips much better. I believe it is because the wire is stiffer. I never had it birds nest but I can't say that about the 4043. It was a pain!"

we've already had this discussion ;-) I'm the guy with the blog post about "there's some guy named Bob doing conversions that I wasn't able to find so here is how I did it"

Huh, Ok, looking at the pdf specs for both:
- 12' vs 20' lead, that shouldn't matter
- larger contact tips and a finned outside barrel, I've converted my 100 to larger contact tips and if the fins really make a difference I can build something.
- Tops out at more IPM, but both say...

I'm almost certain it's a spoolmate 100, whatever came as part of the package.
What's the difference?
I was having problems with it burning back the little tiny tips that it used (even with 4043) so I modified it to use the standard tips that the MIG gun uses, but I haven't...

huh, how do you edit a post on here? When I choose edit it opens my post, will let me edit, view a preview, but if I try to save it it gives me an error message that I'm not authorized to go to that page

Welder settings with 5356
I have a MM211MVP that came with a spoolmate spool gun. There are settings for 4043 wire on the chart in the door but I have never found them (on the door, searching online...) for 5356 wire.
Does anyone know where to find them? Even a chart from another welder that shows both 4043 and...

Um, spool gun = MIG
I have an old synchrowave TIG, but I also have a newer MM211MVP MIG that came with a spoolmate 100. It worked OK for the first few non-critical things I used it for but when I really tried to use it I ended up having real problems with the small, non-standard tips melting...

I don't know what you're picturing but in most areas they can only sell 80cf or smaller argon bottles for non-industrial use. An 80 is pretty heavy, but only about 4' long and 8" in diameter. I can't think of a car that you can't fit that in. They also sell smaller bottles (40 and 20), but I've...

For what you've described you would be fine with any decent 110 welder.... no need to spend nearly that much. If you get good with it you'll get more done with something like that than a lot of people with much more invested in their welder.
I used a Hobart Handler 130 for years, and...

Just about any of those processes could be used to weld it, use whatever you have. If you have all of them then MIG would be the easiest and fastest. Unless it's extremely thin metal you should be able to MIG that with .023 or .030" wire (I've done body sheet metal and even welded coat hanger...
