Ok thanks guys I will check the over current voltage later today. I don’t think it’s bad gas, is there any way I can check? I will try switching over my collet collet body and cup later today to see if that fixes anything and a fresh piece of aluminium. My machine does not have digital meters on...

Ok I’m out in the garage and have got some more info. When I put it to electrode positive it cleans the metal but doesn’t melt it really and balls up the tungsten. When I turn it to ac it doesn’t ball the tungsten but makes a buzzing noise. When I turn it to electrode negative aside from the...

Ok. If I clean them and the problem persists, what else could it be? I would like to fix it myself rather than take it to a place that services equipment....

It sounds like it is not switching over to me. It is melting the material but not cleaning it at all. I will get a piece of aluminium from school put a bead on it with the tig machine there I know works properly then being the same piece home and try it on my machine to rule out the material variable....

I am using 1/8 tungsten. I will try some thoriated in a bit here. The collet is the correct size. Torch is vertical...

Ok thank you. The machine works fine for welding steel. So I don’t think the leads are backwards but will check tomorrow morning. When I try to start an arc it doesn’t stabilise until I floor it and even then it’s all over the place....

Aluminium tig problems
Hey everyone, I have a miller syncrowave 250 and I am trying to weld some aluminium just for practice. I have done quite a bit of ac tig at school (Syncrowave 210) but for some reason My machine isn’t working correctly. I am trying to just lay a bead on a piece of 1/8 plate. I am using 1/8 pure tungsten...

Hmm, the problem is I want to run higher amperage mig stuff but don’t have 3 phase power at my house. So I can’t use something like a miller deltaweld or Lincoln power wave. I can however get a large syncrowave like the 500 and get power that way but it’s not that ideal....
