Started the build. Going to torque it all down and braise the cut off piece into the cut out slot. Would it be less prone to cracking if I was to run the engine up to temperature and braise in when hot or does it matter?

My plan worked and the tractor is up and running. I ground the broken bolt flat in the hole with the bit pictured earlier. Drilled out the bolt and chased the threads clean. I free handed the drilling due to wobble in the drill press.
Thank's

I forgot to say Ryan that I don't have any wire feed yet. I use an old cracker box. Once I get this old tractor burning oil again I can build a decent slab in the shade to work on. Hope to get back on it this after noon.
Sberry, there is a handy tool called a tap extractor. I am sure we...

In my previous carrier I've gotten a quite few out over the years by welding a piece of steel or nut to it. I've learned something like this in a cooling jacket can be larger with corrosion where the bolt is exposed to the coolant. Forcing it though the threads has a potential to crack what your removing...

Welded it a couple of times. The second time broke it off below deck.
This is on an 8N tractor. If the block wasn't between a dozer blade and a backhoe then taking it to a machine shop would be my best option. I am going to use the drill I have to bore it out....Last edited by Chris401; 07-30-2021, 06:22 AM.

Broken Head Bolt In My Flathead Ford
EDIT: The variable speed has been bypassed. Just forward/off/reverse.
The broken head bolt in the coolant passage. The welding trick didn't work this time, just broke off around .070" off the top of the bolt. Crooked and below deck I am just looking to bore out the bolt till I get...Last edited by Chris401; 07-29-2021, 07:41 PM.

Thank you for posting an update johndeerefarmer. I have been searching this site for related articles on welding with diminishing vision, but never found this one. The hidden gem in a previous post was the dime at welding distance. Around 40 I started noticing my close up was getting blurred. My last...

If we were home in Waco I would take it to you. With everything in the wind I don't want to risk mailing them any where. There is a machine shop locally but that is where I spent the $200+ for the two hydraulic cylinder inserts a while back. I suppose it would be worth as long as it goes from my hand...

I didn't think of sleeving it. The pits were caused by the dry packing. It look's like it was left in overdrive for a few decades, without shifting it doesn't get fresh oil on it. I was thinking about making a different seal and housing.

Brown-Lipe 55315531-A Shift Rod Repair
Couldn't edit title!!! It is a Brown-Lipe 5531-A
Hello,
Personal project. Tear down and refresh of an old auxiliary transmission for my daily driver. Some of you might be familiar with these units. The packing appears to be leather. With a standard caliper I measured the deepest pit...Last edited by Chris401; 12-20-2020, 08:24 PM.

Woods bought Wain-Roy around 1990 or so. I have the 54B100 Sherman Power Digger (Wain-Roy) backhoe attachment on my 8N. It is the bulky grandfather of the mini excavator.
