I bought a tig finger remote to use with my Syncrowave 180SD in case foot paddle can not be used in some situations. The one I have uses a rotary knob, the machine is off if the wheel is turned all the way to right. The amp increases when the wheel is turned to the left.
I played around today...

transmission gear repair
I am trying to repair a damage transmission gear tooth. I assume it is mild steel. I like to build up the damaged area with a tig or mig welder then file it down to the shape I want. It is for a mower so it does not need to be very precise. My question is that will the welded metal be hard enough?...

I am using Symcrowave 180SD. Is that a sine wave or square wave?

The welding store store near me is dominating the local market. There is no competitor. They charge pretty much whatever they like.
I agree that having a check list is good, only if I remember to check the check list.
I am worried I am going to forget closing my acetylene/oxygen...Last edited by bcjm; 08-22-2016, 10:04 AM.

I got the gas this morning. It costs me $68 for a 80cf tank. not cheap!!
I think hanging the hood on the tank is a good idea. Another idea is set the timer on my cell phone to alarm me in an hour when I start. Repeat the time if I did not finish in an hour. The worst case is one...

How do you remember to close the gas tank when done?
I keep forgetting to close the tank valve when I finish welding. I probably used no more than 10% of the gas for the last few tanks. The flowmeter/regulator does not seal the tank completely. If I don't close the tank valve the gas will leaks out after a few days....

tig steel vs tig aluminum
I practice my tig welding in the morning for an hour before I go to work. I notice that the arc is so much quieter and more stable when I switch from aluminum to steel (switch from AC to DCEN of course). All other settings are the same ( I do use gas lens). I did some research and I found this comments...

Thank you. The flow meter is a good idea instead of pointing the torch to the eye ball.
Do I need to ground my machine to earth or the ground from the outlet is sufficient?...

I don't feel the air when pointing to the cheek.Maybe I have thick skin or maybe I was using the gas lens....

The post flow is working. I can feel it when pointing the cup to my eye. I was really worried that it is going to zap my eye ball.

Thank you for the reply.
The tungsten does not look bad after welding. I see shinning round tip when I weld aluminum. I know how bad it looks if I forgot to open the gas bottle. Does it suppose to be pretty bad if I only have no post flow?
I feel the electrical on my leg even...

Miller 180SD tig questions
I am new to the hobby. Still practicing. I have an older version (no digital read out) of 180SD. I have two questions.
1. I noticed there is no gas flowing sound after the arc stops. I can hear the sound of the pre flow when I step of the foot pedal. I am not sure if this is normal. I can swear...
