I've had a shopmaster 300 for about 12 years. It has been a great machine for me. Anything I want to do, the limitation is NOT the machine.
I don't do much AC TIG. I mostly do DC Tig and Mig. Stick has worked great, but I don't do a lot of it.

I have one. You will need a Miller HF 251-D 1 High Frequency arc starter (if you don't want to do a scratch start). Then you can use about any torch, water or air cooled....

I'm not sure what it will take to build a set. I found these at Harbor Freight. Item # 68365
I have a 91 Camry, and they work great. They seem to have enough capacity for most cars. They are getting $34.99 for them. I usually like to make my own things, but if it costs me more to...

Ah yes! I've had no problems with a welder, but one trip on a '57' FL Panhead, I drove from San Diego to Shiprock, New Mexico. When I arrived at my destination, I had most of one of the exhaust systems under one arm and the kick stand assembly under the other.
I didn't touch that...

I'm sure no expert! I'm just a home weldor. I have a shopmaster with a S 22 A for MIG wire feeder and a HF 251d-1 for TIG. As it's all I've ever used, I'm very satisfied.
It's a big heavy machine. It wants a 100A circuit.
I bought mine used, about 12 years ago....

She just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to another store where they DID care about inspection dates.
The airgas stores in Southern New Mexico (the two I've gone to) don't even look at the dates. They just swap. Someone at the filling location looks I suppose, and tests them if...

Airgas, the company, must have a very loose organization structure. I've had such great luck with them, and I hope it continues.
I used to drive 60 miles to the nearest Airgas depot as they were so easy to deal with. If a cylinder was out of date, they didn't care. They said "it's...Last edited by jworman; 05-29-2011, 07:24 PM.

This isn't a welding story, but it is a time story that seems to fit here.
I worked for a large company that started making and servicing large photo copiers. When the Model 2 came out the plant sent down the word that they expected that it should take 10 hours a month to service each...

I had a Miller hood. I don't know what model, and I didn't buy it new. It worked very poorly. I finally threw it away.
I bought a Jackson EQC hood new, some years ago. It has worked fine, but there is some sort of grunge that seems to be growing in the lens area. It hasn't been a...

I'm not so sure in our town. A week ago my friends wife was in a parked car and got hit by a pickup. My wife and I went by the emergency room to check on her. As we were there with her, my wife was looking at the monitor hooked up to her. She started asking "What are these numbers?". ...

Thanks Duane,
I appreciate the time you and sberry have spent explaining this to me.
If there is every a long outage, I'll feel comfortable with that much propane in the tank to keep the Bobcat running.

Thank you! This was the tank I had hoped to be able to use if we had a electric outage. I've got it set up so we can run the well with it.
If you have a bit of electricity and a tank of water, most things are doable....

These are 125 gal tanks. This is the main one I wanted to use. The connection in photo 3 I suspect is a wet connection. It has a pipe cap on it. When I loosened the cap a bit, I started leaking propane. I'll have to use up the propane before I can do something about this connection. Right now...
