FM117,
You would be surprised at how many things you can get to look good with a standard random orbital sander (round discs). I have finished SS and Al w/ good results. You can get different grits and see which one you like and go over previous sandings if you don't like the finish....

Drying 7018 stick electrodes
I have a bit of stick welding to do w/ my Dynasty and noticed that my 7018 welds look real nice but have an unusual amount of pinholes.
The rod is quite old (2 yrs?) but always kept inside in Tucson and now Santa Fe.
I'm suspecting that it is moisture in the rod, but wondering...

I have that one, it came with the contractor's kit. Just thought I may want both.

Used remote foot control
Anyone selling a used remote foot control (RFCS-14 equivalent)?
-
JustJoe,
I purchased mine from BRWelder.com. Bob is in a bit of a rush usually, but he had the lowest price and quickly provided tracking numbers when I called. I got the contractor kit w/ finger control. I have only used the DX once and have gotten good advice from HAWK on things...

So HAWK or others,
What is the latest method you have decided on for heating up the tungsten and not contaminating it? Shorting to copper or using lift-arc and letting it get red hot?

Bandsaw welding method??
HAWK,
I'll be sending you mat'l.
Assuming this can not be done by the Dynasty or us, any ideas on how to get it done?
Wondering if there is a modified method of how bandsaws are welded (flash welding?) that would do...

VERY hard welding application - HELP
Well, I told my boss about my new Dynasty and how I'd like to be able to weld vacuum tight welds on 304 and 316 SS soon. He said good, then socked w/ something really challenging. He wants to see if I can butt weld, not lap, 0.004" x 1 cm wide Hastelloy foil!! I haven't tigged in 10 years! ...

TIG remote control
HAWK and others,
I just got my contractor kit and was checking out the rotary finger control. I have not plugged it in yet or used the new 200DX.
Does it mount below the torch (180 degrees from the thumb notch on top)?
Do you use your thumb to control?...

HAK and Blondie_486,
Thanks for the info on CAC.
Right now I'm more interested in my new toy!
Do you have any responses to my plasma questions above?
I ran the 625 yesterday on MS, SS and Al. What a sweet tool. Glad that the kerf is so small....

Guys,
Thanks for the good input and welcome to Blondie_486.
Here is what is says for the stand-off roller:
"Helps maintain recommended standoff distance to maximize cutting performance and improve tip life."
What do you say about...

Plasma cutter shields, stand-off dist., gouging
I'm going to be trying my new 625 this weekend and noticed that there wasn't much guidance in the manual on what affect the different shields (the last piece on the torch) have on performance.
It is clear that the drag shield is for dragging, but does it work any differently than the...

H80N,
Thanks for the numbers. I will probably go with Reliance since they have a pretty good fab shop (I'm going to be doing a portion of my stairs out of one piece of bent diamond plate (multiple bends)) and they have a good relationship w/ the guy that will help me get his prices....

H80N,
No. Thanks for the advice and sorry for not responding. Much of that stuff will not work for my project, but I can definitely see it working for other stuff. I have checked out the LANL surplus and wasn't too impressed, but wasn't looking for stock at thge time either. I want...
