Shrink wrap for old ground welding cable or reuse/ recycle?
I've heard of guys using an old garden hose for a new coating. If it's just at home. And welding cable is worth good money as scrap. Would probably almost pay for a new one. Or give you a good start anyway

type of weld
Portable welder. I disagree. You can do a very wide weave with totally acceptable results. You need more heat and to really watch the flux doesn't get in there. For example heavy plate butt joints on tanks. Those are done with a root pass and then filled up with one pass...

type of weld
I've been told stringers are stronger also but I honestly don't think it matters. If it's a for example 7018 rod if it's a properly welded weave or stringer filling up the same size area it should be exactly the same. 70,000 lbs /sq in

SMAW Fillet Welds?!!!
One thing I do that might help if the actual size of the fillet weld is important is mark out where the toes of the weld should come to with soapstone then just run a grinder or zip cut line just inside the soapstone mark so you know you just have to cover that grinder...

7014 vs 7018 on the farm
A good way to quickly dry out 7018 is just stick it and let it heat up. You will see the moisture steam out for a split second and then weld away. Not for code work. But on the farm works great. And 7014. Is a great farm rod. Perfect mix between 6010 and 7018...

7018 root pass
I've done this pipe test a few times and only seen it actually used in plants that have banned 6010 rods (and similar). The best I can tell you is play with your land and Gap and find what works for you. I found even 3/32 land and Gap worked for me. No pushing the rod...

Favorite Impact Driver?
I have all rigid 18v and love them. The nice thing about ridgid too is that batteries and tools are gaurenteed for life as long as you register them. But honestly I think they all will probably do the same job for you.

Mounting Hardware Opinions; Tapcons, Red Heads, etc.
I recently used some fasteners that we're basically a big tapcon. I think Hilti made them they were structural grade and came in sizes up to 3/4" you just drilled a standard hole the size of the fastener and then used an impact...

insulating sa200?
Hey all I'm in the process of fixing up and building a skid unit for an old SA 200 gas machine. I'm just wondering if I need to somehow insulate the machine from the skid frame as I'll be putting a work surface on the skid. Will this interfere with the machine? Thanks in advance

What am I doing wrong? TIG Stainless
For welding 1/8" material a 5/32 tungsten seems big and 3/16" filler wire is a little big. There's a couple ways to weld stainless (this is what I have found anyway). Weld real hot and move quick so as to minimize the time the material is...

Auto darkening Helmets - your suggestions...
I like to use the old 2x4" shields with the flip up front to grind. Then get an auto darkening lens. But that's me. I know you said you want a big view. But how big of a puddle do you really make. Just my 2 cents. Good luck
