Try making a line to follow.. I will use a cutting wheel and lightly scratch either a center line or 2 outer lines to help keep my bead width even.. Try changing where you are looking.....

We have had Mirror weld tests.. But i never ran into a problem with not having it.. Not many guys can mirror weld good in my local.. I guess it depends on the welding inspector..

A pair of clear glasses will help some too.. I was doing some mirror welds this year.. Real humid day and my glasses kept fogging up.. I took them off not thinking.. While i was reaching in with the tig torch to get set up, i struck off a few time basicly in my face.. after a 8 hrs of that, that night...

Root is your first pass joining the 2 plates or tubes together.. Cap is your final passes (the money shot).. Tie in im assuming he means when running you beads that they are tied in together, not gappy.....

Probably just a plate test with a back up strip.. Might be 3/8 plate.. Anyway after you weld it, it will probably get cut into strips and bent into a horseshoe.. The root being the u part.. It's no biggie..

Good question, i have the same machine and want to get a HF so i can start learning Alum welding and i wanted to get a foot pedal too.. I searched around and didn't find anything..

Being in a union trade i see welding shields, gloves, clear face shields, etc.. All types of PPE just thrown on the ground or thrown away. Some guys just abuse the **** that the contractors give us.. And to think these poor people cant even get a welding shield.. It makes you wonder how much we take...
