Probably so, The 2" oil field pipe I used is holding up, so I will be making some supports out of more of it....

Black pipe hasn't held up to support a load in a fire in my use.
I used it to support my charcoal maker and have 2 nice curved pipes now.
here you can see how there were to begin with.

Here is a smoker I built last winter/spring.
Its an old fuel oil tank, with a reverse flow design. I will try to help if you have any questions.

If you can get it wo seal with some latches, I wouldn't try to bend it a lot.
I think the Metal Doctor was on to something as well. The pit will grow while in use. My smoker leaks some as it comes up to temp, but once it all gets hot it doesn't leak enough that I am going to worry...

It was a really neat project.
Hopefully the barrel last for a while. I plan on making a lot of charcoal.

just lay what ever you want to cook on the top.
It will be done fast.
couldn't hardly get close to it while it was going.
the goal is to use scrap/trashy would in the bottom to cook good wood into charcoal.
I am going to cook up another batch...

Charcoal Maker
I have built a charcoal maker so I can make my own charcoal to use in my smoker that i am building.
It is actually a Charcoal Retort.
