tungsten type and tip profile for AL welding
I've owned a TIG welder for a couple of years, and am proficient on mild steel and stainless.
My aluminum welding and out of position welding need some help, so I have been in a welding class for the last couple of weeks at the local college.
I started doing some aluminum...

Very nice looking gate MTBob, You may have problems with the cows stopping to admire the ornamental accents.

DrBob,
The cart you're referring to is a small roll around work cart.
The drawer you see is a fold down table that used to be in a mail truck. I used some drawer slides to mount a couple of them under the tops of some carts I built.
I'd never...

Ed H, that's a pretty slick roller you've got. Similar design to what I built.
Ed, The drive wheel on mine is 4" and the bottom rollers are 1.5". TO do some tighter radius arches, I think I can get the bottom rollers down to 7-8" apart.

Ed,
Here's a link to an arch roller I specifically built to arch 14 and 16 gauge 1" square tubing for ornamental railing, fencing, and gate work. The bottom 2 rollers can be adjusted from 14" to 26" apart. I'm going to add some additional slots that allow me to adjust them...

Nice work Railmen,
I never complain too much about jobs like this, they keep me from going out and spending money, and I always feel good about a job well done..

Chris,
Thanks for the link to the larger images.
Question: I've seen/heard that you need a more massive stand for proper use of an anvil.
Something like a large piece of dense tree stump. Your stand looks great, but doesn't meet this criteria. Have I been given...

I agree with Old Sporty;
1 1/2" for the frame will work fine, then I'd use smaller material for the interior work.
Personally, I'd use 1/2" square 16 ga for the internal structure..
In most cases ( assuming your not hanging a gate off of it) 2 feet...

hey wireburner,
I'd love to see this stand ( as I just fabbed an anvil from a piece of R.R. track), but your pics are too small for my old eye's to see..

Bummer, I wouldn't bag on Craigs List too much though, as long as you're wary and constantly looking, you can find some good to great deals.
I recently purchased a Millermatic 212 with a large full gas bottle, 10 lb spool of wire, and new Miller Elite helmet for $1200 from a guy that...

metalguy22,
good comments..
pipeline Dan,
Another data point you could gather that would be specific to your area along the lines of metalguy22's points would be to call 3-4 fence/railing companies in your area and ask for a phone quote for a set quantity...

scottf,
I live in Meridian as well.
The Larry Selland College down at BSU offers the types of classes you are looking for. I took one of their machining courses last semester and am thinking about the TIG welding class for this fall. It starts on September 20th.
