I switched to 90/10 about 3 years ago as my "all purpose" gas for steel.
Been very happy with the results, can go from short arc on thin stuff
to spray on plate by just cranking up the power and bumping the gas
flow using .035 wire.

Can't offer anything about the welder but we've sold Honda for about 30 years.
The little generator will give you 16.6 amps at 120 volts for about 30 minutes
before the overload trips. I'd suspect the "inrush" current when you strike
the arc will be above this, if you...

Fastip contact tips
Anybody know a source to buy the newer style threaded tips in quantities
of less than 25? On-line maybe.
Have a small project for the spoolgun running .023 wire...
Thanks

Thanks Guys
The LWS I usually use only charges me Hazmat for cylinder deliveries, not
for wire. I had not really heard of it for wire but based on the replies
sounds like it happens.
I'll know better next time....
BTW the roll of wire was $9.80 instead of the usual...

Hazmat Fee?
Stopped by a local Airgas outlet today ( was on the way by ) and got a
single one pound roll of 5356 for a spoolgun. I was charged a extra $4.00,
listed as a Hazmat charge. I don't normally use this store but I'm
wondering if this is typical??
I'm in Michigan if it matters....

Just quickly looked at those pics, on my screen they look like
mig welds, can't really tell?
Gotta agree, I'd be worried about crashing that thing.
Not enough info to have a conclusion about the why, but
the bottom line final result is pretty ugly.
If it was my butt...Last edited by FM117; 09-18-2009, 08:42 PM.

Not relevent to the original question but.....
I've also have a MM200, I keep it loaded with .035 and run 90/10,
short arcs well and the unit has enough oomph to get to spay
when I want it.
I really like that old welder, one of those machines that are "keepers"....

Zeb,
You will not get agreement on the answer to your question.
Some use ER70 others use ER80. On the frame itself I doubt
you'll be able to do post weld heat treating.
I use ER80 and don't believe in the practice of torch annealing
the welded joints. I do use lowest...

Usually I'll get bit if bare skin or a sweat soaked gloved hand is resting
on the table or what I'm welding. It's just the Hi-freq. but still will
make me jump.
Also it will happen if you forget to hook up the ground clamp, you know
take it off to move something and forget...

Can't tell you the exact reasons on the gas mixes.
You need at least 80% argon, never tried straight
argon?
There are other common spray mixes using 95-98 percent argon
and the balance is O2. The reason I like the 90/10 is it
also short-arcs well and I don't have to...

I see you have a MM251....
Get some .035 wire, go get a small bottle of 90/10 gas,
crank up the voltage to somewhere north of 25-26 volts,
and finally set the wire speed to about 550-600 ipm.
Get a couple hunks of steel about 1/4 to 3/8 thick and
set em up for a fillet...
