Oh, and as I think someone mentioned, try to check it asap after it shuts down.
I just thought of the fact that readings will be different at temp. Normal readings are at 70F.

You may know and have checked, but the resistance between + and - coil terminals should be 2.9-3.6 ohms and between the two plug wire terminals on the coil should be 14,900-19,800 ohms.

Maybe a double/recheck of all the ignition wiring connections? You can buy a new "bad" coil also Do you see a condenser anywhere?

I have to chime in on this one> It is possible to practice some of the technique of TIG welding with out gas of any kind or even a machine. A long ago friend of mine told me about getting practice while watching TV. hth! you ask! Well, he took a rig off the power cable and got one of his wife's stainless...

welders in series>?
I have done it in the past with two SA200s, but is it possible to connect two, say, Bobcat 225s together to double the amperage?

Are you sure that is even aluminum you are trying to weld? That is U-gly. Somehthing is deffinately not set correctly...

Some of you guys are out of the ball park. The guy is beating these practice coupons apart with a hammer. I don't think it is something he is going to have heat treated.
It is possible to achieve a quality weld with the equipment and materials he has on hand, but may take more expertise with...

After reading more reply's, I though I would mention something mostly for the newer welders, but also something alot of old timers forget.
When discussing welding you will always hear the word "heat" in many different contexts. If we tell someone the weld was to hot, the first thing...Last edited by mooseye; 02-08-2011, 09:21 AM.

Dude,
You need to stop worrying about color. It is a side effect.
Lay your wire in the groove and turn the heat up a little. You will be able to weld over the wire in effect duplicating a pass with no wire. You have to increase the amperage to compensate for the added heat sink (the...Last edited by mooseye; 02-08-2011, 08:54 AM.

one of my buds does this all the time and he says that the best way to prevent warping is to go slow, lots of small tacks and lots of wet rags. He is pretty good as he has done automotive trim in ss like the windshield trim on antique cars. I forget the gauge but beer can thickness comes to mind.

Any one have experience with these?
If so, did you observe a fluctuating amperage at the torch?
Did you observe a poorly defined, hard to control arc?
I am asking this to try to predetermine a need for service.

did this just start happening out of the blue or did it get worked on first?
If the solenoid is working then find the linkage going to the carb and work the idle switch and watch the linkage. Does it move the lever on the carb? If so, you may have a loose butterfly in the carb or an air leak...Last edited by mooseye; 02-15-2010, 07:34 PM.

That is not really alot of hours on that unit if it has been taken care of and not abused. Those hours equate to about 6 months of use in an industrial environment, meaning 40 hours a week. I would hope Lincoln and Kohler or Onan have worked their machines out to last longer than that.
Only...
