MSW42T Spot Welder Basic Troublshooting

It is 220v.

I will slowly disassemble it and check for poor contacts and corrosion.

I assume the main component (transformer?) Is fairly indestructible. This unit appears low hours.

When I press the prongs together I can hear the transformer vibrating and the piece of metal gets a little heat, but no glow.

switch does not seem to have any impact.

Any basic steps I can take to get this to work would be appreciated.

Runs in power setting and it generates power.

I did not open the cabinet to check on the 240 volt terminals, only checked the two plug ins on the face side of the machine.

This is one of the rare instances, in a long life, that I took the time to research the issue and THEN...

I made the change and now have continuity as discussed.

Hopefully, when I start and run it in power mode, electricity will generate.

When you get a chance, could you look at the schematic once more and give me your opinion if it shows both wires 51 and 52 connected to the negative side of the 12v coil? Inside the doted line that surrounds the throttle switch, there is 51 and 52 recorded along with a couple of circles with lines...

Please let me review the wiring on the machine as relates to wire 51.

I think the issue is polarity, as the #51 is on the wrong side of the coil as compared to the schematic.

I agree. For blue #52 (witch connects the negative side of coil to one of the WELD prongs of the WELD/POWER switch), there is continuity only if the the throttle control is set to idle. So, under the power mode, the unit will not get fire to the plug wires when the throttle control is set to idle....

Yes, I completely disconnect the wires from each end before I test for continuity.

I think, but not certain, a wire diagram (as opposed to a schematic) may be the tool that I need to solve the puzzle.

Repeat Issue: Engine will not run when WELD / POWER switch set to POWER. Welds fine on WELD setting, and the single 110 outlet works also.

I will spend some time tomorrow analyzing (continuity, voltage, ground) for wires 51,52 and 53 in relation to the (a) toggle switch for WELD / POWER and (b) throttle control switch, (c) engine coil (d) engine point box.

I am not sure if the throttle control switch is meant to disallow...
