Hi there.
I wish to know if anyone has any insight concerning an old stick machine that I just brought home. I have checked the manual list. They show an M180, and an M180P and neither manual shows the two outside terminals that are on this machine. This machine has a red and a black terminal...

You might try E7018 with electrode positive. What we do is to start flat, then tilt up a little at a time. Just run over the same piece of steel, let it grow! When it gets too hot, dunk it.
Just don't dunk a piece you want to use somewhere,...

OK, the rod is run at a rating that falls within the parameters set by the manufacturer and found written on the box. Your machine should put that amperage out just fine, that is the only point I have.
Concerning 3/8" or 1/2" or 1-1/2"...

OK, I got some time in with some fresh 1/8" 7018 Forney brand rods last night. Not all 7018 rods are going to burn the same and moisture is never going to help these rods, but I did what I could. They burned fine. Other than needing to practice with these more, they did just fine with the Econotig...

Yes, it can be. Two areas of concern, in my opinion, are depth of penetration and cold lap. You get that using mig more than with stick. Preheat is more beneficial with thicker metal and larger pieces, especially for using mig. The best example I can give is when tack welding parts together, how many...
