  • I was one of those who reported the spams about counterfeit money and documents. I still don't have any bars, though. I guess I don't have enough time in. I've only been here for ten years. Oh well, maybe I'll get at least one bar by next year.

  • When I was in manufacturing at Rocketdyne many years ago, all of the welds on Rocket engine parts were done with Helium. It was called "Heliarc" then, whicn was a name coined by Russell Meredith of Northrop Aviation ca 1941. Linde later perfected the equipment. The welds that I saw were beautiful...

    I feel better now since I see that a Moderator here who has been here longer than I and who has many more posts only has two bars. That's also a very clever method of giving oneself a full rack of bars. I think I may go to a bar and celebrate now. Thanks Mr. aametalmaster....

  • I have extensive experience with cracked aluminum motorcycle parts. With any piece that has had contact with oil, a successful weld will require that the part be disassembled, cleaned and deburred as mentioned above by other posters here. Also, preheat will help. To do it with the crankcases together...

  • I have several boxes of Pure Tungsten as well. It can be used on aluminum but the ball that forms on the end will get rather large after a while. It's not the best. As mentioned above, I lke Thoriated and Lanthanated. I haven't tried any of the others, however....

  • The only capacitors used on some of the TIG 250 of which I'm aware are the power factor capacitors. While the kit would have been expensive from Lincoln, you could get both of them on eBay for less than $20 apiece. The ones on the two units that I owned were just two metal cans mounted on the left rear...

  • I've owned two of them in the past. 3/32 2% Thoriated or 2% Lanthanated with 15 scfm of argon for nearly everything. If you can get one that is in decent shape, they are an excellent welder and especially good on stick, although not bad on TIG, either.
