you all pretty much confirmed what I suspected. It seems people with short sleeves are also the ones that see a nice lookin' bead and don't care to actually check if they are gettin' good fusion. I think I'll stick with the long sleeves in the hot weather and save my skin for a couple more years.

no sunburn with DCEN
i have seen guys on Orange County Choppers, West Coast Choppers, ect mig/tig with short sleeves on and they seem to have no problems. I went to do a weld test at a company that primarily uses SS tig for most of their work and it seemed that I was in the minority group of people with long sleeves on....

are you welding with the correct polarity? It should be DCEP. Something is definitely not set right in your set up. Hope you get some better results soon. Good luck.

vertical mig gas
Is it possible to run vertical mig with 98% Argon 2% Oxygen gas?

It is brand new out of the box but when I reach the end of a bead I get a big pit of black crap. I use a 30A push pull gun at my company and never experienced this problem before. There...

I have used both types and definetly find 4043 easier to weld with. I've never had any issues with bird nesting either(just lucky I guess) and I use a 20 ft gun. If you can weld aluminum you should be able to get a nice weld with either wire.

I'd say 1/2" is probably the thickest you'll want to do with straight argon on the Syncrowave 250. I use ours at work and sometimes have to tig some 3/8" plate and it doesn't take long for that cooling fan to kick on. You can look into adding helium to your shielding gas to make you arc...
