It is recommended to use a filler that has less than .85% Si due to Zinc Embrittlement
I have tried 7010 and had problems cracking and went back to 7018 when it was required to use a 70xx rod. Some flux cores work well also if you have alot to do.

I don't think you will beat that price much, but you might check with T&W Steel. They are in Lee's Summit Mo. and carry some alum. if you don't know about them. I bought a section of 3/16 x 2 x 4 Stainless about two months ago and it was around $700...

I like the CK Rotary the best as far as the torch mount remotes and as Paul said, my next one will be built in too. The strap on type sometimes moves around, but I wanted the versatility of using it on different machines. I have had three types. Linear- did not like at all. Side to side was better ,but...

Mag Drill
I have a small Hougen HMD904. I would look at the HMD904s, might help in alignment once your locked on. Or maybe a HMD150 if 1 inch is enough travel. I would think for what you are doing (1") or less a compact magdrill would be an advantage. The Jancys and others have...

ZRC is good and here is another http://www.briteproducts.com/shop/index.htm I hear you on the paint prep. Hard to get that oil film off especially on bigger jobs. I started using a diluted phosphoric acid solution in a garden sprayer to cut through it, followed by a rinse. As far as paint I have...
