Welding Area Lighting
What is the best light source type for welding areas. My question relates to the use of auto darkening hoods. Is one lighting source more compatible with the function of auto darkening hoods than another. By source I mean: incandescent vs halogen vs fluorescent. Any other tidbits of lighting...

miller syncrowave 210 power requirements
I am looking at the Miller Syncrowave 210 TIG welder. The literature says that input power requirement is less than 30 amps. adding 20% for margin gives 36 amps. So looks like a 40 amp circuit is needed. What amperage do those of you who use this machine power your machines with.

Limits of Work PieceThickness Using MIG
I have two Miller 180 Amp Mig welders. I run .023 wire on one and .030 wire on the other. Most of my work are small scale decorative sculptural pieces. However occasionally I build up fixtures and tools/ machines for use in my shop. Often the materials a much thicker than is recommended for my Mig...

Yours is the obvious answer. Maybe with preheating it could work but the problem with preheating a sizeable frame is that it cannot be pre-heated all at once. Local pre-heats would likely cause distortion. I agree that without pre-heating the 1" plate that the results would be questionable...

There are 1" thick elements that are to be welded to 1/4" thick tube. I figured a good preheat would be a compensation for the extra thicness. If so how much preheat is needed ?...

Limitations for use of 180 Amp Mig Welder ???
I am not new to welding however am planning a new welding project that is a first for me, and that demands respect because of loading requirements of the application.
The project is fabrication of a hydraulic press frame wih an active load of 30 tons. Although I am skeptical of using one...

Collar
Thank you for your reply. Normally I would use my TIG to weld this collar however I have just moved my shop and the circuit for my Hobart has not been installed so I am stuck with MIG or silver braze for now. Therefore it seemed that the A36 seemed a reasonable...

Collar to "S" Steel
I need to weld or braze steel collars to S7 steel tooling . In service the tool may reach 400 to 500 degrees F. Will silver braze hold in shear at these temperatures ? Alternately will a preheated weld hold. The collars are to be A36 steel. If welded I will use my mig.
Any alternative...

MIG Weld Penetration
What constitutes good penetration using a MIG welder. I have two Millermatic welders. The older is a Millermatic 35 in which I run .035 wire, the newer is a Millermatic 185 in which I run .023 wire. Is the following an accurate definition of penetration ? Additions/Corrections, expansions please...
