I have a customer who cuts stainless shaft with a hot saw and most of the time it is very hard to machine. I have a Evolution chop saw and they offer a carbide tipped blade for stainless.

I have used Radnor and Lincoln L-56 and there is no comparison. L-56 is much better.

I use a BWE with a 2.5 cheater lens and I wear no line bifocals. When I'm reaching out as far as I can, I take the glasses off, when welding in close I adjust the magnification by tilting my head to see thru a different part of the bifocal.

I have a Deltaweld 452 with a D74DX feeder that I bought in Jan 2004. It is a fantastic feeder and has performed flawlessly. I'm sure you will be very happy with your new machine.

I have a Uni-Hydro Ironworker that I bought new in 1981, it is avery good machine. I have never had any problems with it. I think you should check how much of the tooling is included in the price.
The design of the machine has a lot to do with how much horse power is required...

I have a TB301D, anytime I am running 160 amps or less I lock the speed control on idle. This keeps the noise down and it still welds great.

300d
I would think $4000 at the lowest. I think a 301D is over $8000 now. I have 301D and I love the way it runs and welds. I don't need anouther one but if your machine wasn't so far away I would buy it.

Plasma over water
I have heard that cutting over a tank of water will give cleaner cuts and I have som questions.
1 How close should the water be to the cutting table?
2 How deep should the water be?
3 How much does it help?
Thanks for your help.

Air compressor
I have a 325 Quincy compressor with a 12 HP Kohler that I put together in 1977 for my first service truck and it still runs great. I also have a 325 Quincy 5HP 3 phase compressor in the shop.

Hardfacing
I have used this hardfacing and it works much better when using a air/acetylene for the heating than it does using oxygen/acetylene.

Weldmup.
What settings do you use to spray with CO2 and .035 wire?

Gas
I use CO2. I have tried the mix but for my work the CO2 does a better job. I do a lot of repair work ( field and shop) and fab work with new steel. I have found the CO2 is a lot more forgiving when the part you are repairing is not perfectly clean and the penetration is better....
