Alright, I'm sure this has been covered in depth before, but I have not found a solution in my searches so far.
I have a Maxstar 150 STL SN LE 040092M. I got it for the price of free (It had been to a local welder repair shop, and subsequently sat at my local Airgas in the back room for...

Called Airgas back today, was told they would take the national cylinder gas bottle I have, but not the us welding gas bottles. Called praxair, they want to look at the us welding gas bottles, but did not ask about exchange. These bottles all have names on he neck ring, and more than anything that seems...Last edited by On fire most of the time; 07-19-2012, 04:19 PM. Reason: Spelling. Autocorrect struck again.

Need some help with a couple cylinders
I recently received a few 02 cylinders and a #4acetelyn tank from a friend who no longer needed them, for the price of free. I have no use for 5 02 cylinders, but id love to trade them across to get some argon or mix.
Well I called up Airgas, spoke to their rep, (and didn't have the name...

The best place Ive found AN fittings is Jegs. If you dont need anything fancy, its like 3$ a fitting for straight stuff. Its "Jegs" brand, but I havent found Aeroquip, Magnafuel, or Russell to be any better. They dont have labels on them either.

Nice to see you haven't forgotten her! Slowly but surely I suppose. My project has been about the same...it'll be nice when it runs!

Correction...some of the benders you can buy for small tube are a joke. I've had decent luck with some.

That looks pretty awesome man. Know what your car has that LS cars don't? Much easier service. Alternator is on the top, turbo is to the side, only one manifold...try changing spark plugs on an LS rail. I think you'll be really happy with it once you get the chance to run it.
Let...

For your reading pleasure, you might also pick up a copy of the SCCA and/or NASA tech inspection sheets. You may also have a better response on either of those websites when it comes to inspecting cages as well.
One thing we (the shop I used to work for) always looked for was a cold...

I must be really lucky...My Snap On guy still knows nothing about welding, but he knows when a shop wants to off their old equip to come talk to me. I picked up a MM251, with flowmeter, and a few extra consumables for around 1600. Its nice to have a heavier machine than my MM180.
Also...

I have a spoolmate 100 that I run on my MM180, and can do up to 5/16ths, but thats pushing it. Ive used 5356 .030, and .035 wire. Never had an issue with either of those wire sizes, unless I set up the machine wrong, or get the tip too close, and burn back onto it.
I cant speak for...

Hit the nail straight on the head with that. I was hoping my explanation made sense. I'm looking forward to those pictures. Maybe I'll do a thread revival for my old chevy pickup, and post a few things I've been working on.
Sometimes here in the motorsports area, there are very few...

Having only ever used a foot control, I can't say anything about a finger controlled torch...but I usually don't get to sit when I weld.
It takes some getting used to, either standing, or out of position (aka, laying on your back in the sun under a race car at the track) but once you...

I couldn't pass up adding my .02
If this is your first cage, and you are doing CroMo, I will guarantee that it will fight you. Especially the out of position parts. I have been upside down, in between tubes, with one arm wrapped through the halo. It can be a downright PITA.
