It won't throw it way off but that motor will a little faster than the original one....

The best way would be to get another link for the board (038618) but if you are going to use wire then I would suggest going with at least a #10 awg with the appropriate ring lugs.

The stock number you provided (23511375) is not even close to anything we have in our cross reference book so I would suspect this was built by Airco themselves. I am not aware of anywhere to get information on the Airco built units.
Sorry I could not be of more assistance with this....

I checked my cross reference book and the stock number you provided is not in there so it looks like it's not a Miller built unit.

Noel,
Does the weld contactor stay in when you keep the trigger pulled or does it drop out on its own? If it's dropping out then make sure you are not in between ranges on the heat selector switch. If it is staying in check the fuse and the rheostat with a meter and the motor with an external...

On that particular unit clipping D-1 off the main control board will disable the hot start circuit. This may address the burn back issues you are having. You will also want to check the feed-ability of the wire, a feeding issue could also cause burn back issues.

Cj,
The 185's are pretty easy to work on. It sounds like you have already ruled out the drive motor so that leaves a couple things inside the unit itself. The CR-1 relay points could be in rough shape. You should be able to see them through the plastic case of the relay and see just how...

If it is the original gun it would be an M-25. The M-25 is a good gun so if it's in good shape there really is no reason to swap it out unless you need something different size wise.

What it does is give a little more power on the starts which in most cases is fine in particular on thicker materials. It can however cause issues on very thin materials or if you are running a small diameter wire such as .023. With the unit you have the start performance is actually very good without...

rspiger, on the unit you listed you would need to clip D-1 diode on the control board to disable the hot-start. It would be located right along the edge of the board in the upper right hand corner.

romesnow,
The weld current is supposed to transfer to the wire at the contact tip. It looks like in this case it is transferring at the drive roll instead and there are only a few things that I know of that will cause this.
1) Poor connection where gun plugs into the unit....

Bulletpruf, if you have the older transformer style Millermatic 211 then you definitely should not put 230 volts into the unit using the 115 volt adapter as it will damage the unit. This model is also strictly 60 Hz, running it on 50 Hz will affect the weld performance and the unit will easily overheat...

I would suggest sticking with the standard Spoolmatic 30A or 15A. These are the spoolguns that the unit was developed with and they work very well on it. The Spoolmatic Pros have a different drive motor and gear box similar to the XR-Aluma-Pro guns.
