Entertaining
I enjoyed watching it, might learn a few tricks, like using the wooden wedges to keep the water out. I'm always curious about those types of TV shows and OSHA. It's pretty easy to spot lots of violations!
The announcer missed the boat when the crew was attempting to...

I thought about "cheating" on making pretty welds by chucking the back end of the torch in my milling machine chuck, turn in the auto-feed and maybe even the pulse. Then just sit there and feed wire!

My wife got me a DeWalt cordless for Christmas, I was totally disappointed in both the performance and battery life. RPM's are too slow, 6500 vs 10,000 for the corded model (which I really like).

What's it worth?
I know of a ShopMaster 300 coming up for auction that came from my workplace. It's probably 13-14 years old but in great shape and low hours as most of my welding is in the field. It's only been used for stick and has no other accessories. It doesn't even have a scratch on it. What would you be willing...Last edited by nocheepgas; 08-08-2013, 06:01 PM.

Camping Fire Box
I had a client request I make him a strong and durable fire box for camping: the design parameters were wide open. He has 5 family members (3 daughters) so I made a 5 sided pentagon shape and hand cut designs appropriate for each family member.

In The Trenches
I do 95% of my welding in the trenches, although I guess that gives me the "Hobo" look, it keeps my pockets and the back of my underwear getting full of dirt. Welding, just what the other guys posted, keeps the slag running downhill.

If you're worried about cracking, use epoxy. Building code here only accepts that for load bearing walls if the anchors aren't placed before the pour.

Tightening a Receiver Tube
I'm wanting to cut a couple of holes in my concrete floor and install some 2" receiver hitch tubes in them to be able to install and remove some portable stands. The problem is that there is a bit of play in 2" O.D. square tubing, and that play is accentuated the longer the inserted tube gets....

I think pipeline welders are the worst offenders of removing guards. I wish I had a dollar for every one that showed up with their grinder guards removed! First thing they usually have to do when arriving at my job site is to go buy a new grinder....with a guard!
