Without actually seeing what your current electrical situation is, nobody here can tell you exactly what items you'll need to get your welder going. If you know an electrician, great. If not, hire one. Have him look at your situation and your welder requirements and decide what you need, then purchase...

The suggested amp range for a 3/16" 6011 rod is 140-215 amps. I would get some 3/32 or 1/8 6011 rods and dial it down some.

I'm just a hobby welder now, but when I was still in the land of the employed, I used a Huntsman fixed shade #10 for years. Now that I'm 60 and the old peepers aint what they used to be, when I mig weld, I dial in a 9 shade and use my reading glasses under my hood. Been doing that for a number of years...

You're right about the shipping. I've found many a good deal on brass, aluminum, copper, etc. That is, until the shipping comes in. Sometimes it's more than the material you want to purchase. I live in Phoenix, so I have a number of places to choose from that have more variety than I will ever need....

Check your local steelyards and also see if you have a Metal Supermarkets in your area. The Metal Supermarkets in my area has a drop and remnant section of steel and aluminum that they sell by the pound....

Looking at the manual for your serial number, your machine has a 115V DC drive motor and brushes. Set your multimeter for DC and recheck voltage, and also check your brushes. And follow MAC 702's recommendations. The more detail, the better. Good luck!

Don, I think your shop could use some extra security. I have a cot and a sleeping bag and I promise, they won't take up much room and you'll hardly know I'm there, unless, of course you hear the machinery running when it shouldn't be.

Don, reading your posts is like reading an article out of my Home Shop Machinist magazines. Great stuff, keep'em coming.

Hey Ryan, I see in another thread you bought some IGBT's. I'm assuming you're going to try and repair your board. I haven't seen Aeronca or some of the other electrical folks here lately, but I'm sure they would be happy to help you out. I'm sticking with my 20 yr. old MIG. At least if it lets out the...

I would lay a piece of flat bar across where the shelves will lay, clamp your mounting tabs to the flat bar and weld them in place. If that is what you're asking.

A few years ago, I installed a chain link fence in my front yard. I bought all the fence materials from a fence supply company. I also bought a can of cold galvanizing spray from them, believing that since they build and install fences and gates as their main business, I was getting a good can of spray....

Willie, you just brought back a lot of memories. When I was still amongst the working, I spent many years as a factory maintenance mechanic in a facility built in the forties. They had many pieces of equipment serviced by those old "heater" equipped starters. Even though it's old tech by todays...
