Hi Ggiill
Thanks,
Well you may find a burned buzzbox in a scrapyard or even in a weldind equipment repair shop.
Some small buzzbox have the core welded, and the shoop do not open the welded core to replace the burned coils. it is cheap to buy a new buzzbox....

What happens if we use wire 15 rather than 16 ? Can we get more welding current ?

The watts that enter in the wellder can be calculated as LINE VOLTS x WELDER INPUT CURRENT . ( example: 230V X 55 amper = 12650 watts )
This is the max power required by the welder machine.
If you want to convert to HP , just divide by 750 (example: 12650 : 750...

Hi johnnyg340 !
Your answer is close to the information that I am looking for.
Do you have the table of or graphic of arc voltage X arc current ?
I am not looking for the OCV or the V x A machine characteristics.
Wath book may show such...Last edited by Newton Brawn; 08-22-2014, 10:54 AM.

Hi USMCPOP,
Thanks for the advise.
I have downloaded the Miller cathalogh but the complete stick arc voltage parameters I could not read.
The tables show 30V @ 250A and 28V @ 250A however no data for lower currents.
Maybe some manual or book have...

The stick electrode arc voltage
Hi !
It was long time since last time I have been in the Forum....
Now I need a information, regardind the voltage between the stick electode and the work when the ARC PLASMA IS ON.
I know that the welder machine output is about 50~80 volts whoever...

Wath kind of helmet ?
Hi All !
I decided to retire my old welding helmet... It have worked hard since 1974, suffered several repairs and patches, it is just enough to hold the helmut inside my office, as a recognition of a good work friend.
And wath kind of helmet shal I buy ? A auto darkening...

Hi !
The solution is keep the wire, spools or evem the stick electodes at 2-4 degrees celsius above the local ambient temperature. Cover it with a plastic bag, or blanket, and use inside a 220V -10 or 20 W light bulb as a source of heat to keep the electrodes or wires dry.

Hi !
It appears that the new machines do not have a HF arc starter unit with energy enough to open a clear 1/2 inch ionized path from the tungsten electrode to the work.
To fix the low energy arc starter the recomendation is use doped tunghsten, (litle bit expense).
Old...
