Even when you are using the exact stuff the door chart is written for, your settings will still vary slightly based on exact input power voltage, and personal welding style. The chart just gets you close. Vary the wire speed while you are welding to see what it does. If none of the wire speed settings...

GMAW = MIG
FCAW = flux-cored setup in the MIG machine
GTAW = TIG
Some multi-process machines can also do AC TIG for aluminum. But not at a hobbyist's price point.
MIG is relatively "easy" but then again, some people that think they can run a caulking...

Cut out the part of the door where the hinges are going to go first. Then, weld on the hinges. Then, cut out the rest of the door. Perfect alignment without having to screw around.

I used a Passport (original) as a main shop machine for the year when I was between my MM175 and HH210 machines. It might look funny on a cart in the shop but there's nothing wrong with it.

I've never done it with aluminum, but I've done it a lot with thick pieces of copper. It not only keeps the weld flat, but acts like a heat sink to help from blowing holes when welding thin stuff. I've never tried the technique when stick welding but it works very well with GMAW. I wonder if the...
