  • Nice spanner! Bet it work s a lot better than a punch and hammer that I tend to use when the seals go out on my 2 post lifts.

  • Ah yes, I know one of those types. The landlord owns another building in town, he tells me about the guy. He is always paying his rent on the 90th day late, and actually lives in the shop. I don't know how he gets so many of the cage jobs, but like your local, he gets lazy. If one just thinks about...

Afternoon naps are the best. I start at 5am, at the shop at 7, open the doors at 8:30-9. Work like a maniac until about 2, have a huge lunch, close/lock the doors, prop the feet up, and nap half way through a physics lecture. Open back up at 4pm, deal with the "after work car pick ups", and...

  • Noel, it's old money. The landlord is over 90, the wife is 60. They have properties all over the states, and reside in Hollywood. So, she likes to compare a working "condo" to the Hollywood storage facility they have locally. They store movie props (basically a storage), we work for a living....

  • I am not as ancient as you Franz, but am blessed with my grandmother still kicking. She is circa 1936 and got to see me before her 39th birthday. Family is Roman Catholic that were driven from Ireland during the famine. "Take the roof off" is a real thing.

    Crazy thing is, we didn't...

  • He was simply knocked unconscious, not dead lol. I wouldn't remember the invention of CPR, seeing I am a sapling compared to you, but I was 4 when Reagan was inaugurated, that memory is clear "how can an actor be president?!?!?". The Challenger explosion, Micheal Jackson's hair setting fire,...

  • Some people have a knack for memory. I site stories to my mother and get replies "how do you remember that?!?!?" My brother was born less than 3yrs from me, and I can tell you things that happened when he came home from the hospital, as well as the time he got up in the middle of the night...

I use magnetic oil drain plugs in the race cars. A fresh engine sure puts out a lot of ferrous metals during the ring seating procedure, but they stay clean shortly after.

  • It is highway robbery TBH. I moved in 9yr ago at less than $7. I now pay $11/yr (that's 12mos*rent/SF), so per month I pay almost a buck). The building is worth millions, there's 24 units in it. I had the choice of 3 or 4 bays, couple of them were smaller, but have central air. My unit is 83x30 with...

  • My daughter is an avid sewer, her machines are not Singer, but are quite heavy for what appears to be a lot of plastic.

Growing up my mom had a Singer 27, it was the type with a big flywheel and foot pedal where the untit would flip down and it became a table with a leather rope as a "belt"....

  • See my previous post. It's a plinth block for a roll cage. It can be painted since it will be bolt-in. The top plate has stover captive nuts welded to the bottom. This way if the owner ever decides to go full wheel to wheel race car, it will be possible to unbolt it to be able to access the a-pillar...

  • Got an Everlast plasma cutter a few years ago, last about half that, otherwise this job could have gone a lot faster. Had to cut 1/8" and 3/16 1018 with these countours on a 4" hand angle grinder....need to finish restoring the Kitamura, then it would be real CAD/CAM

  • Thanks Ryan!

Roll cages? I love building them, but the competition this close to Miami is difficult - everyone's answer to my prices is "I can have it done in Hialeah for $400". So, I just get word of mouth jobs from people who have seen the work my shop produces. It's just me...

Soak that shiz in 2 part clear epoxy, magnetize and wait. Throw another layer of clear on it, ebough for the pointy parts to be non-obtrusive, then sell for profit. Art is a difficult thing to master, the same reason the best shops in America are an utter disaster area.

I still watch PBS. Granted, the content went from 1,2,3,4,5,6 to quantum mechanics, but similar no doubt. PBS is keeping up with the times. Check out their YouTube channels, PBS Space Time, Eons , and Math. I had no idea what a Hydra was, even after getting a 4.0 in Calculus. Today, I use geometry extensively...

  • The only interaction I had with the fire Dept as adolescent was a being youngun was the time I lit all my mom's boyfriend's Pentouse magazines on fire in the basement. Not only did he blacken both my brothers and my eyes, she later pulled out a 4' piece of baseboard and went to town. I was old enough...

  • As my wife says to the kids "just throw it into Google" when we are all stumped with a typical kids' "why is the sky blue" question.

Result is researchers threw 2000 cigarettes in a pool of gasoline, and not a single one ignited: https://www.scienceabc.com/eyeopener...

  • I am with Tackit. My Sync is a 1981 model and still buzzes a bead as good as the id10t running the thing can do. Picked it up used off Craigslist around 13yr ago for 800 clams.

Funny cigar story Franz. Reminds me of the time working at the CNC machine shop and we had one of those greasy...
