I don't want any surprises, so I check the size of the weld after the second and third pass to be sure it's right. Pic #4 is the cap

Well since this is a welding web site thought I might put some welding in here. After drilling those hole its time for the base plates and caps to get welded. Had one of my kids here make a jig to align the base plates. Really funny watching the smoke come out of his ears, after a short time of heavy...

The drawing is the base detail, that is the 12" x 12" x 3/4" base plate with the 6" x 6" x 1/4" wall tube. it is a section view looking from the top down. My first thought was that PP stood for partial penetration. The weld is spec'ed for flux core and all welds need to...

OK if they leave me alone I should be able to finish today.I'm 444 holes in, cutter is still working like new, depending on downward pressure holes drill in 15 to 20 seconds. The first holes on the job took 12 to 17 seconds so it is a little slower but not bad yet. I do remove scale before each cut...

In answers to your question BukitCase. These posts are going to be pipe racks, as in all the plumbing to run our new regen plant will be mounted to these poles. At this point there is around 20 pipes, ranging from 1" to 4" carrying water or chemical or resin to and from regen tanks, expected...

I made a template pic of it post19, clamp the template, transfer punch, kiss the punch mark with a flap wheel to take off the scale, drill. my cycle time is around 30 minutes for 24 holes, that's working 2 post at a time on top of a cart. I've completed around 310 holes so far. Got pulled off today...

I my shop the only grinders without guards have sanding discs or flap wheels. If it has a hard wheel it has a guard. I've gotten several stitches from 6" zip wheels no gloves and no guard (in the past). Ruins your day, makes the job your on stop, and gets blood all over the place. Not to mention...

I'm only at 72 holes so far but the cutter hasn't slowed yet. I ordered 2 more 9/16 bit just in case. First 12 holes went thru mill scale but after your advice I have clean it away before drilling. I also make sure to flood coolant before bit touches. We will see how far this bit goes I have 552 holes...

Well the drill came in. Love it, and the swivel base would be a bargain at twice the price. Made a template and with just a dink mark from a transfer punch I can locate the cutter. end of day I have 24 holes done and around 560 to go.FUN...

When I first started building stuff at the ripe old age of 12. My best friend and I were working out of his garage, we were using his dad's Sears Craftsman Radial arm saw with an abrasive cutting wheel on it. The switch was broken so we bypassed it, to turn the thing on, we just plugged it in. Not so...

Went straight real good, corners not so much but it was a kick to drive.
Don't beat yourself up. that frame should straighten out with just a little push here and there. I've made my fair share of pretzels over the years. It's never a happy occasion, almost always able to get um straight in the...

I did say tall but the poles are not installed yet. My original plan was to use roller stands and a drill press and might still do it that way. BUT the big boss said "Hey would a mag base drill help. Go ahead and get one." No arguments I've tried to get one of these for a decade now and always...
