Guys in our shop use McGuire's plastic polish and an air buffer . I save the old ones on my Speedglass and buff them ahead at times.
Jackson helmets are the only way to go if you want the generic size lenses. High quality and low price maintenance.
I just want the cool stuff to impress...

  • Sorry but I can't give an opinion one way or another. I don't readily convert those dimensions in my head to our measuring system and I'm too lazy too do it myself.
I'd say that if your would like to receive good discussion here, you probably should provide something all of us can understand without...

    I have them all
It just depends on what I'm gonna do.
I like the real small ones to pack down long steps to the water (or actually back up)
I like my 300s in the shop for argon on aluminum and stainless
I like my 180s for mixes I seldom use like 75/25 on steel

Glad you asked,it depends on your interpretation of "invest"
If you simply mean buying a small portable wire welder, then the choices are overwhelming.
If you mean a powerful 250+ amperage machine like a professional welder would use for life...I use only Miller products.

    Boy ain't that the truth!!
The part about you and only you.....that pretty much nails it.
There is no doubt as long as I have my reputation, I have a job.

One of my favorite things I like to repeatedly rattle off to my people is about wisdom. You can't get it from books. There...

  • BAHAHA!! I love your sense of humor.
Actually thinking about your original post, considering how my machines work, I doubt yours would weld worth a crap if you set it on the synergic mode for solid wire and C-25 and welded with flux core. And if you set it to solid and reversed the polarity then...

It would be a good idea to start a new thread so people would know it was about your machine instead of having to read through six months worth of posts about another guys machine. You just sorta popped into the middle here....

    Thanks.
I felt I needed to say something to go along with all our warnings about the struggle.

I've seen great welders who were poor business men. They stayed poor
I've seen pitiful welders who were great business men. They do ok sometimes. Until they get in over their heads.

I'm so thankful I didn't have this forum to talk me out of going into the welding business when I didn't know what I was getting into.
I could weld good. I had people who wanted me to come to their place. Then I went from there

Heck in this Pu$$yA$$ society..... we are lucky ANYONE under 40 wants to weld anything by hand.
I did my part. I taught all three of my sons my trade. Made them work with me. The watched me bleed, crawl, cuss, throw fits, go broke and then become somewhat successful. All together.
    Now we...

  • Yes that is the correct pre-load direction. You could over do it when you consider that all those pieces will shrink considerably when welded because it is aluminum. You don't want it to be obvious.
After this I say just use it...... let it tell you what it needs as you go
    Biggest...

  • I had some ideas at first, but as I read on I see you have already taken a few measures to prevent.
First off though I'll add a couple of thoughts.
A flat frame is about as weak as you can get. Even steel pontoon trailers have a TON of flex. The boat, when properly strapped down, becomes...
