  • Wiring Syncrowave 180SD

    I was wondering if anyone has a diagram/chart with the input amperage of the miller syncrowave 180sd tig welder. I came across a good deal on one and picked it up. I am adding a 220v outlet in my garage. Miller suggests a 60amp breaker, but for code based on a load analysis of the house, I can only run a 50amp breaker. If I use a 50 amp breaker, will the welder operate ok on small jobs? The only things I want to weld are small projects for my car, like welding on an aluminum AN fitting here and there. What does this welder's input amperage look like at idle, low settings, etc.?

    I just set up my Dynasty 300dx in my garage at home, 220 with a 50amp breaker. I corresponded with miller techs and they said this set up is fine as long as I don't use more than 230 amps continuous. Check the owners manual available from miller on this web site, it should tell you the recommended breaker amperage to use for a specific output amerage or email Miller tech with all your details. They are very helpful. You can go to the 'service & support' menu at the top of this page and grab the pdf file on the syncro model you have.

      I've got my 180SD running on a 50 amp breaker. I ran it at full tilt on a continuous 10" weld a week ago and had no problem, in fact the fan never even came on.(The fan DOES work BTW).

        Thanks guys. I did email the miller tech dept just to be sure. They said it will be ok to run it that way as well.

        So, hopefully I can get it wired up and start welding soon. Thanks for the help guys.

          I think this is what you are looking for i scan this off of my manual if need other info such as different tungstens can scan that page also if needed not sure what model you have this might be close though.

            Thanks. Yeah, I do have the manual as the unit was new and came with everything. But the charts show 54amp input at 40% duty cycle. I was wondering if they had a chart to show the input amperage across the entire duty cycle board(0-100%). There is another chart in the manual with the entire duty cycle, but only shows the output amperage. I am going to be doing small jobs and won't reach the higher end. Was just curious as to how far I could safely go with 50amp input limit.

              thanks for the question i didn't really look a my manual as i bought my 180 tig & 302 with my severence money been getting the 302 set up on the truck and haven't had time to deal with the 180 Need to make some alum. tool boxes for the truck and i was just going to plug the 180 into the 250 ac plug but i think i'll check with an electrian now. The thickess pieces that i want to weld are about 3/8 Alum.
