    [IMG][/IMG]Hey guys !
I am somewhat new to tig welding. I have a basic knowledge of how to tig, but just the basics. I have got a brand new Syncrowave 250 in my garage, have set it all up and got my water cooling system as well runing.
I would like to know how to set one up for mild steel and stainless. I have tryed to weld stainless pipes with stailness filler, but it looks wery well not good. The weld is contaminated with this black slag its somewhat adgy on the tips of the welds. I am using argon mix but now sure what mix with. I know that i can weld chrom-molly with my millermatic using this gas. If any one has any sugetions please and thak you.:confused

you need to be using strait argon, not a mix. with the power of the syn250 strait argon will weld anything you want to weld with no problems NO MIX for TIG unless you need more heat, witch you have plenty of with the 250. you might need to back gass to keep the back side of the SS looking nice and keep its propertys if its thin pipe back gassing is a must, again with strait argon. you should be welding on DC also.
its a great welder and should serve you well for many years, enjoy and congrats on the new toy.
    thanks for the help
    ......or..........
    hope i helped

You'll have to stick with the C25 for miggig steel, but stainless and aluminum you can use the Argon for.

yep you need seperate gases for MIG & TIG,SS with MIG is also recomended to use a TRY-Mix or C10 but if MintSScout has done it with argon i guess its werth a try.
so you will need atleast 2 tanks for MIG & TIG. sorry to dissapoint ya, but thats just life in the welding world.
          thanks for the help

I've never tried a Tri-Mix.(cost to much) Since he has a 250 I doubt he's going to mig to much Mig Stainless or Aluminum.

I've used straight argon or helium for aluminum MIG, and a Liquid Air brand mix for stainless MIG. I can't remember the gases in the mix off hand. I think it was a Argon CO2 Helium mix.

I use Argon for all of my TIG stuff. I use the Trimix on my TIG welder, I use CO2 on MIG also for certain applications.

Allout, get rid of that PolarFleece shirt, it will melt in a 'New York Minute', I know, I have even had them melt down from hot milling machine chips, looked real cool, till I tried to get the razor sharp chips out........anyway, my wife quit buying me presents because of my 'Abuse' of PolarFleece......Freezin in Florida, Paul
