Today I was using Flux for the first time, mind you Iknow its the exact same as mig but I had trouble with it. When I was doing it my bead was bubbling? they said I didnt have the right angle but I was doing it the same as I would on mig? any tips for me I could use them :P

Also Iw as catching up on my stick welding, I really enjoy doing it but yet again my bead isnt a clean looking bead (i did remove the slag) but I have been using what they call idiot rods. Could that jsut be from the type of rod being used or is it jsut sometihng im doing wrong?

Did you change the polarity on welder when switching to flux cored wire?

this welder was only used for flux core. It can probly be changed but the guys set it up for me

what do you mean bubbling? like you were'nt getting gas, porosity, or was it blurping?

flux core is not the same as mig. you adjust youre heat and wire speed different, you have a different arc length, wou work the puddle different...
the more you mess with it trying different different stuff you'll find out that flux is more forgiving than mig.

when I was welding it wasnt bubbling but the bead was bubbly like there was no gas when you mig welded

Some types of flux core require the use of gas. Might Help

howdy. as for the stick part, sounds like your talkin about a 6013. kind of harsh to call it an idiot rod, but its kind of an "all purpose" electrode. most high school programs use it because its such an easy rod for a beginner to use. easy strikes on AC and DC, slag isnt real heavy/cleans easy, all position electrode.

No im not calling it and idiot rod as an insult, its jsut what my teacher called it and I caught onto that name. I cant argue they are extreamly good rods to use after people told me the beads arnt really ment to look good. I did a project at work (first one) and thats all I was allowed to use. So I really grew to like them, I find they dont stick alot ether compaired to the other rods that actually leave a nice bead, I tink there 7011 im not 100% sure.

that'swhat i'm figurin. 6010 or 6011. we call them farmers rods aruond here.

7010 is reffered to as hippie rod around here, but the reference is actually to the designation HYPE, or high yield pipe electrode.

i was talking about 6011 rods everyone seems to have a different name for them so its hard to know what to really call them anymore it really is easier to just call them 6011 rods

actualy about your flux core check to see if its gas shielded flux core, i used alot of that at my last job and if i wasnt getting enuf gas it would have little pin holes all over the place
