new to this. Does anyone have a set of plans for a Big-twin motorcycle? I prefer a soft tail with a fat rear tire 250 or better. I am also looking for a good dedicated forum for chopper builders if anyone knows of one. I tried this yesterday and checked out the poll thing then couldn,t figure out how to back out of it!

HELP!! I am hoping to get some help on this still. Have I broken some kind of forum rule or is there really no-one that has any information regarding chopper frames and the jigs used to build them?

Use a search engine. There are a tons of guys (too many) out there doing this, someone should help ya. I think the problem you may be up against is that no one will want to give you the specs on their frame. Cant you do the research in the aftermarket world and come up with what you need to do yourself ? If you want a soft tail, get your hands on the tail section for a
250mm tire , get the front section of the frame you like and start writing (drawing).You may even find a local cycle shop that has the stuff you want to copy and will let you take notes. I know all about the complications (I have built bikes), but trust me its not rocket science. I think Big Bear choppers site has all the info for rake and trail for the front end. One thing I can tell you, if you think you are going to make something as nice as what you buy and save a bundle of money, you probably wont. Unless your time is free and you have a heck of a shop full of benders and fixtures, forget it. Dont forget the whole DMV issue with MSO's and titles. Last bike I did, I found a $600 frame that was close to what I wanted, it has a MSO, I had a title with a motor (older HD here), then cut the frame, made "my" modifications to it, and down the road it went. Saved me hassles, time, and wasting materials on fixtures that would rarely get used again. Plus my title was wham-bammer.

i would think it would be easyer to buy a titled frame even a totaled one and cut out the #'s to use on the one you make, although it might just be easyer to buy the frame and build from there. like Dan said its a lot of jig work for somthing you wont use much unless you intend to go into production. you can get almost any frame type you want now so getting close to what you want and doing a little altering might be a better option than a full build, and getting the title with it is a big +

material is not the concern

I have already been given the material to make the jig and have ample space for storage it is not about being the easiest way it is about the pride of knowing I built it from material to rideable. Obviuosly I can't mill my own motor but I can design and build my own frame just need to know if anyone here has done it and what kind of tips you have. But thank you all for your suggestions

its realy not rocket sience, just make shore you have every thing in line and true to get it to track properly and start building. if you use some one elses design it would help to get the enjen mounts lined up. sounds like a fun project some day i hope to take on the same thing. although i was going to start with a premade soft tail as i will need the suspention and having the bushings premade will realy help, not to mention i dont want to have to mess with DMV. you could always buy a frame set your jigs to it, or atleast the parts you need and then resell the frame. or donate it to a werthy cause.... ... like ME

IMHO, unless you're a very good welder, already own good equipment and plan on building more than 2-3 frames you're farther ahead to buy a frame.

There's more to building a 100mph motorcycle than welding up some tubing.
