Nice lookin weld job! Looks like a tool for turning the compost pile or digging potatoes with.

On the 309....I keep it handy on the work bench. If I’m welding away on something and my weld puddle starts to boil because I didn’t clean it good enough or it’s just old, nasty steel, you dab a little 309 in that currently bubbling weld puddle and it smooth right out like glass.

This is for a buddy at work, just wanted to use 309 .045" filler that I happen to have an abundance of and rarely use

309 has all the best ingredients for welding mild steel. Whether it's a repair or for new fabrication. Its also the go-to for welding mild steel to 304 or 308 among others. 309 is a great option and fills in nicely even when impurities in the base are present like mill scale or surface rust. I use 309 for welding oddball parts together that have been plated as well.
Nice job on the welding OP!!!!

Curious - why 309? Looks like all carbon.
