Tig Brazed Helmet Hook Kit.

A few years ago, I purchased a Hel-Hook Steel Welding Hanger Kit from Jody’s Weldmonger store. For the past 2-1/2 weeks I have been recovering from my Hernia operation, but I am getting stir crazy, so I decided to TIG braze the kit together. The kit comes with plasma cut steel parts that fit perfectly together, which are shown below.

Brazing works better if the parts are clean, so I sanded the edges of the parts that will be TIG brazed.

A few years ago, I purchased a selection of Silicon Bronze welding rods. I selected the 3/32” diameter rod.

In hindsight I might have been better off using the 1/16” rod, because I nipped the edge of the steel parts in some cases. Of course, once I got the feel for the Silicon Bronze rod, I was easily able to stay away from melting the steel edge even with the 3/32” rod, as you can see below.

Thanks, it gave me the opportunity to TIG braze using Silicon Bronze. It is a good application for TIG brazing, because the plasma cut parts pretty much held themselves together, so there is very little demand on the braze joint.

That tig brazing is fast too. When I built the belt guard for my compressor, I tacked it together with er70-s2 and then tig brazed it out with silicon bronze. My plan was to lessen the distortion so it stayed straight and looked nice. Not only did I zip through that job, at the end, had zero distortion. And as the part heats up it goes even faster.

I wish I was as patient with the picture taking as you are. You always do an excellent job of documenting your work.

And while were on the Silicon Bronze subject of which I've used allot ..........I just ran across this :ERCuAl-A2 Aluminum Bronze A2 Copper TIG welding wire..........that is great for welding cast iron..on AC Tig
with a little preheat..
