Dozer blade skin

Todays project, Cat D6. Put a new skin on the blade. Customer had their equipment guy template it and get four formed 3/8" ar plates. The center ones were spot on but the side wings were bumped to a flat radius when they are slightly cone shaped. I cut them in 3 sections each to get them to sit good. Blade is just shy of 5ft tall and about 10ft wide. Working in customers shop using their equipment. Got it all tacked on today and started welding. Finish it up tomorrow. Using Trimark triple 7 wire until spool is empty then switching to esab 7100 duel shield, 1/16"

Here's two pics. Fiting the first pc. Had to trim the wing side as it is not a straight seam. 2nd pic is all fitted and tacked up. I left approximately 1/2"-5/8" in between each plate. I will weld each plate to the blade and then 1 pass catching both sides. Won't be flush but plenty good enough.

I only planned on 3 passes for each joint but after having some spots that just looked like not enough weld I decided to cap them. Most areas took 4 total passes some spots took 5. Looks much better with joints filled up. This was more for looks than strength. I don't like "wasting" time or wire but sometimes you just need to make it look right. Finished product.

Got tired of picking up my chipping gun from the floor so tacked a "shelf" on the blade. Wish I thought of this years ago. You can still learn something new no matter how old.

Mechanic is going to flip the centers and put on new corner ones. Then back to the job.
