  • Cargo Carrier Modification

    My wife’s knees are shot so we purchased an electric scooter to help her to get around. To haul the electric scooter we purchased a cargo carrier with a ramp. When I mounted the cargo carrier on the car I noticed that it was too low and sloped downward towards the back as shown in the 1st picture.

    I had installed an aftermarket hitch on the back of the car shown in picture 2. To avoid the bumper, the hitch was designed sloping downward towards the back of the car.

    Picture 3 shows a the factory original hitch with a notched bumper, so the receiver was level.

    Picture 4 shows the cargo carrier turned upside down with the modification I made to the steel support tube. I raised the front 3 inches and I eliminated 1-1/2 inches of slope.

    Picture 5 shows the first step of the modification, which was to weld two stub tubes onto the top of main tube.

    The next step, shown in picture 6, was to mount the bracket in the receiver and to place the platform on top of the bracket. I supported the back of the platform with a service jack and I used a threaded rod to level it left to right.

              No, and the self leveling Nivomat shocks are not available for it.

                To bad as that Cantilever effect will probably lighten up that steer axle......Nice job though!
