No action shot other then the one there of lifting the doors but I should be able to lift pretty much anything I want off that beam. Its rated to carry the weight of the roof with something like 80 lbs / sq ft snow load on it. Something like 70, 000 lbs, Id have to look it up to remember exactly. And that is all while maintaining minimal deflection so its not like it collapses should that weight be exceeded. Its a w27x94 beam, pretty **** overkill if you ask me haha.
Heres a pic off me putting the beam up, it was the max weight for that boom truck with at that distance. If I was to do it all over again I dont think I would go this route. The vaulted ceiling is nice, as is the beam for lifting but it limits you to only being able to lift around the center off the shop. If I was to do it again I would go with a higher wall, 16' maybe and use trusses with a low roof slope. For what I ended up paying for all the steel I probably could have bought a used overhead crane or built a real nice gantry.
