      welcome little scab

i want to welcome you to the wonderfull world of welding. we work hard and have fun doin' it. i'm happy to see a youngster interested in the craft.
my words of advise are probably what you alredy know, welders are like a clan, if you get a bad rep, you won't get work. learn all you can from the old hands, and don't get ****y too soon. (you will get ****y) there is always something new to learn so always be open for advise and criticism. don't just learn a process or a technique, perfect it the best you can. good welds come from good fit ups. that's not a saying that's a fact. lastly, there are no such things as "plate streachers" or "box of bevels" ect.
      good luck

recruit, we need the hands before they outsource our jobs

I will now look into the gloves you have mentioned. I grind a bit like probly 5 minutes straight at the most but its better to be safe then sorry! Also could me being tired when I come home be, because I looked into a flash (it was unintentional someoen was talking to me and a guy started to weld.)?
Thanks for reading I hope my post helped

best to avoid looking at the flash as i'm shore you know , but just one quick flash wont kill ya but might make your eyes a lil sore if the amps were high enough and you looked long enough but it should go away soon.

wile you only grind a little bit now the gloves may not seem to important but its realy about teaching your self to use them now as you are starting out. start out with good habbits that way it will becom routeen to use them later on in your life when you do more grinding for longer days. befor long you will just automaticly put them on without thinking about it.

glad to here all is still going well, did you work out the helmit problem??
          thanks for the help

Well I really believe that you get what you pay for, So if your going to go out buy a grinder, wrenches, welder & accessories you should pay top dollar or mid range price depending on what you need the tools for. When I buy my welder its going to be for projects at home and hopefully for other people so I need to buy top quality stuff theres really no point buying a welder unless you want to pay the $$ for it. About the welding hood, all I want to say is my eyes deserve the best you only have one set of them so why bother going half *** on it. Mind you I am hearing maybe different stories ab out auto shade not being as good as the regular flip down helmets. But I will probly guy 2 helmets? I don't know how you guys go around with the helmets but thats what I believe, am I correct?

Only buy the best hoods ,best welding machines also cheapo grinders do okay they last as long as brand name grinders as long as you take care of them never buy cheapo grinding wheels buy brand name wheels ok and auto-darking hoods do fine (if you turn them on) but like you said buy 2 hoods 1auto darking 1 just a regular hood

a good auto hood like the miller's have 100% UV protection even when they are in the off state and are just as safe as the old style. i got a standerd hood when i started playing at home about 6 years ago. i also started saving for a good auto hood, after about a year i had the $$ needed to get the Miller BWE and have not used my standerd hood after the BWE got here. if you get a good hood it will be ajustable so it can be used inside or out in the sun. i have used my BWE out in the sun as well as in the shop.

wile i agree with wireburner on most of that, the cheepose do not last as long as the beter grinders unless you atleast get to the midle ground grinders. i have 3 B&D grinders (about $29) from wally world they last about 1 year and then i take them back to wally world for another when they burn up. i also have 2 porta cables (from e-by $50 & $60 about) and in the 3 years i have had the porta cables both have worked great, they are also smoother running (less vibration on the hands and wrists) and have more power. i have herd HF's $29 4-1/2" are susposed to be prety good and intend to try on but only because i have a local store and can return it if its a POS.

one set of eyes, buy a good hood is a good plan.
                    thanks for the help

it takes a long time to get a good shop outfitted, many of us on here have been collecting tools for years, but you will never get there till ya start. one tool at a time, buy good ones and they will be there for many years to help the shop grow.
                              thanks for the help

                                Day 6

Well today was very good. I really enjoyed workign there. I did some cleaning of the mechinest part of the shop, but they also got me doing some mechinest like work. Very interesting to say the least. I kind of want to go a little deeper into what they do and what sort of skills you will need to get to be one, it seems lieka good trade to have under your belt. So yesterday I skipped a math class stupid me, My girlfriend didnt want to go to one of ehr classes so i skipped it with her. My mom got a call today form my teacher and shes concerned with my productiveness. So i got ym wake up call, I started to work more in calss and at home, mind you it is a real p*** off but hey i need this math for welding, We will be starting trig next week I hope so Im really lookign forward to that. But im goign to put myself ina higher gear to get my mark up again! I dont want to fail math i really do enjoy it until it gets over myhead, mind you that happens everyday but afteryou give it a chance its not so bad. So thats my life lession stop slacking off in school.
