Here is a loader bucket that was in decent shape except it's worn thin. Had daylight showing in the corners. I cut out the sides and replaced with 3/8" plate, added pcs. to the side cutters, plated the floor on the inside and now I am welding on pcs. of a cutting edge to the cutting edge. It is supposed to have bolt on pcs. that go in between the teeth but the customer got a price of $600 dollars each or $4200 for seven of them. I found a new cutting edge for a machine they no longer have so I cut pcs. and will weld them on.

All material is mild steel except the cutting edge pcs. It will only be used for moving material around a job site so it should last a long time. Over lapped the 3/8" plate onto the cutting as it was cracking at the seam of the floor to cutting edge. Someone before me welded the bolt on shanks to the edge already.

I was originally going to weld the edge pcs. on the top side but once I started tacking them on it didn't look right so on the bottom they will go.

Do you have to do anything special to those wear plate before you weld them on? Do you know what the material is?

I just weld them. Never had an issue. If it's in the winter I just warm them up some to take the moisture out. For this I'm using esab 7100 1/16" wire which is what the customer has. If I was doing it outside I would use Hobart 21b. The edge was for a Cat D6 bolt on.

Nice job on the segments. I usually use ar 400 for everything including the segments just because I don't want to see a bucket come back.

Yes plug welded the 3/8" plate to the floor. The inside isn't to bad as you can porta power everything tight. Here is the bottom done. Added a couple plates also.
