  • looking for weld on pipe sleeves

    Hi Everyone

I need to do some repair work on some 2" pipe used on a tower section
Does anyone have a favorite vendor for some weld on pipe repair sleeves?

Google is leaving me without suggestion

    Thank you!!

The more detail you can reveal in your question, the better the answers that you receive will be.
Pics you post can really help.
Tower?..as in tuna tower? radio tower? what kind of tower?
...repairing the tower ...becuz?? it broke...becuz...??
    material of parent tower?
    2" pipe?? OD 2.375? schedule 10?, or 40?, or 80?

If it's 2 '' schedule 40 , I would use 2 1/2'' pipe for the repair. Schedule 40 will work but 80 might be a tighter fit . Two inch slides inside 2 1/2'' nicely.

Is this structural or for transfer, replacing sections or cracks?

The material measures to be 2" SCH 40
What had happened was that water crept into the top section of the tower, dripped down the inside of the leg and froze in the base of the tower leg. Once the water froze inside the base of the tower leg, the ice expanded and caused a 3" long crack in the area where the water was.

I do have some pics on my work computer but the hard drive quit Sunday. Always at the most unfortunate time.

The local water jet shop is telling me that they can cut a piece of pipe length-ways for the repair if need be.
I was wondering if there is something ' off the shelf ' that may work better and be something that I can just order.

          Adam

How long does the repair section need to be? You can cut pipe lengthwise yourself with a metal-cutting circular saw or torch or other means.

Or grinder with cut off wheel.May not be a bad idea to cap top of pipe or put drain holes in so it doesn't happen again

Just cut standard 2 1/2'' schedule 40 or 80. That will fit perfect . Run a angle grinder in the split first, run a bead , and place 2 1/2'' pipe patch on. Use a cutoff wheel to split the 2 1/2'' and weld up.

What type of tower did we determine this to be?

I use sleeves for bulkhead penetrators all the time. Contact Boney Forge. They make standard IPS sleeves. Schedule means nothing to your current OD. By the way, and there are no pipe sizes that "slip" over your IPS 2" pipe. Not with any remote fit tolerance.

Why not not simply cut out the split pipe and replace with new. The whole repair would take less time than this q&a process?

Maybe he didn't need it done within that two-day period and the discussion was for everyone's benefit. You're the one who bumped it three months later. The schedule of the larger repair section certainly matters as it affects the ID of the repair section, which he is trying to match closely enough to the existing OD. Schedule of the existing section wouldn't matter except to plan weld penetration.

Sure, replacing the pipe is an idea. Assuming you have a way to support the structure while you cut out the existing section. So maybe not so cut-and-dry that it should be done without thinking about other ideas.

Actually there were a few spammers in between the orig post and up parts. He caught the tail end of those. That's how it got back to the top of the heap...Bob

Pretty easy to tell spam from discussion, especially if being critical about said discussion. Anyway, speaking of spam, we have a lot more this morning, and I'm no longer "authorized to create" the report flag. What happened?
