  • Kubota diesel Miller blue star 2e

Hello all, I have recently started a project, from scrap, found a Kubota genset, and a blue star 2e and decided to think outside the box, and attempt to build the ultimate blue star my budget can. First I separated the Kubota genset, the genset was no good anyway and all I wanted was the engine, which is a 2 cylinder non turbo diesel.😈 for a whole $300 bucks. Then scored a Miller blue star 2e from my partner that didn't have any motor just genset for a whole $50 bucks.😝 Then I started fabrication on the frame how it's going to all set. Finally It came to me a picture in my head, I got it. I went to work, hunting down all the 2×2 square tubing I could find around the shed, now in all honesty I had no clue who all has already attempted this sudden task that I did not thoroughly think out, but what the Heck why not right. I do believe some of the best masterpieces was on a sudden splurge. (Not quoted) , so frame is built half way anyway now I cut off the motor mounts off the old frame and welded to the new frame, and mounted the new but used Kubota diesel engine in place. Now the flywheel to the engine, and the fan/rotor plate or totally different in size and bolt pattern, BUT after several trips back and forth to the tool box, I discovered a way to line the two up make a bolt pattern drill out the bolt pattern and TTAADDAA no machine shop required, now they are mated and installed with the help of a simple hole saw, and paint marker and totally concentration magic is happening, on the other hand I may have just got lucky, but I have no problem taking all the credit, so moving on after a beer of admiring the beast at hand, to join together the amateur housing, so I cut a circular 14" plate off of the old blue star skid, found center, measured the housing made my bolt pattern drilled grounded drilled and grounded some more, now note the rotor was not in place in the housing during this process I did remove it so I could trace the bolt patterns easier. Now the plate is built found some 1/2" rigid pipe cut 8 pieces 1 1/4" long found 8 2" bolts wwooaalaa. She is coming together, as my adrenaline is rising, I had no choice but to crank the engine and see what happens, and she started up like I ran her all day with out a skip in beat. I suddenly out of nowhere yelled SHE'S ALIVE, revved the engine NO SPARKS, NO RUBBING OF THE ROTOR JUST PERFECT. My Frankenstein is alive, the beast has risen.

    To be continued!

Okay I'm back again, so I finally got some free time through all the ruckus these few days. Woke up the other morning started staring at the blue star beast, while I was enjoying my Sunday coffee, and knowingly had orders from the wife it was supposed to be yard day. Suddenly before I knew it I was tinkering with the beast, got the mounts squared away, looked at the stabilizer and transformer and decided it's time, let's see if she welds, so I started my deep study on the wireing diagram. First thought how hard could it be, I'm a electrician! Wrong!!, soon found out I'm not a technician lol, but pressed on, got the stabilizer mounted, then came the transformer, then selector switch etc.etc. Built a temporary face plate, at the same time I'm getting nervous, double checking wire's are not crossed or maybe blow something up. Now it's time let's see if she will weld. So I cranked the beast up, and she starts without hesitation, she's breathing as white smoke puffed out the exhuast from a cold start, revved the mini monster diesel engine two or three times she is purring with a I'm a diesel sound, my eyes light up again, just like the day I first cranked it, my monster is alive, SHE'S ALIVE!!!!. Now my adrenaline is going so I quickly grab my leads of the gasoline powered ranger 8, and struggling to get them on the beast my hands where shaking from eager, finally the leads are hooked up, I dash to the strap pile grabbing anything to strike an ark on, ended up with a small piece of angle iron. Then quickly grabbed the welding hood, didn't even tighten the band, and forgot to grab my welding gloves, grabbed a 5/16 6010 welding rod from the can, grabbed the stinger, ground clamp hooked, and right before I struck an ark, I took a deep breath the moment of truth, ( SCRATCH SCRATCH) the engine revs up and all of a sudden FIRE shoots from the bottom end of the rod. I yell with excitement (SHES WELDING , SHES WELDING ) BURNED that rod grabbed another did it again,. Now I feel like I'm the mad scientist, suddenly realized she needs a name, so I call her, THE BLUE BEAST,
