1969 miller big 40

Have another question for yall. On the adjustable resistor R2 in diagram. I was wondering what ohm is needed for this. Right now it's at 11 which is what I measured the old one at. Reason I ask is when I'm welding it gets pretty warm. The rheostat is not getting hot and the wires aren't but the resistor is. It's a 20 ohm resistor as per the parts list. Thanks

My limited electronics experience tells me that's what resistors do, get hot. It might be normal.
