Well Lincoln assured me the 3200 was the SP135T.

My cousin was able to secure me a deal for somewhere around $299 + tax
( new unit - full 3 yr warranty )

So for $314, the boy gets a Lincoln SP135T for xmas.

Great christmas present for anyone I think.

$389 for the HH140 is a good price. it also has a good reputation, as dose the sp, although it seems i have herd of a few feed motor problems with the sp's but not enough that i think its a big problem, with limited home use it should be fine.
although if it wetre My $$ the HH140 would be my choice at $389 if you had a tight budget.

This (3200 HD)is the same model as the SP135T sold by our Welding Distributor but it comes with a small undercarriage with a very small cylinder mount.

Both are 135 Amp units, and I can 'steal' on from HD, as I have a 10% off coupon AND get an " employee discount " on top of the 10%.

I think the one Lowes caries is called the Pro-mig 135 (now the Pro-mig 140), at least thats what they are called here. I will check it out as I need to get Mike from school and go there to get him some gloves that fit. Anyway both the small Lincolns are consumer models, the Lincoln rep told me they are a different division than the + or T models (I guess now they are C or T models. IOC, if you like them usually has referb'ed SP-135T models, but they cost more than the refurb'ed HH140's from Northern (I think thats the place). If you are squeezing pennies to get a 120V machine I would recommend the HH140 (25A low end vs. most of the others at 30A) as the best for the money, I don't know about the new Lincolns or Millers but they will be more money anyway and I don't think they could be much better at throwing a bead than the HH140. JMO of course. Having said all that I guess 20% off is a deal on that HD3200, it should also do what you need and if you work there you won't have any problem taking it back if there is a problem.

I read somewhere that the SP135 was the "industry" model, and the 3200 was the "consumer/hobbyist" model, and that the internals were different.

I have had the SP135T for almost 2 years now and I really like it. I got it as a factory refurb for about $450 or so. I could not tell in any way my machine wasn't brand new. I wish I could find more equipment that is refurb'd.

Well, maybe he was just having a bad day when I called. It sounds like you had a much different experience than I did which I am glad to hear. It would be really discouraging if they treated everyone like they treated me. All I can do is go on my own personal experience, and given this I will no longer be doing business there. Just my humble opinion for all that it's worth.

there is a company that sells factory referbished HH140's for about $400, i cant remember who at the moment but willl think on it for you . or you could start a tthred over at the hobart board asking for referbished welders and i'm shore you will get the info. they come with a warenty but it might only be 1 year, cant remember if you get the full 3 or not, but it might be werth looking into.

i got great service from IOC after the sale, when i got my TA-185 i told him the torch kit was missing a bacl cap and the foot pedle plug did not have a wire clamp on it, he said no problem. shipped me out a new clip for the foot pedle and a new back cap, got it in about 3 days, then found out the foot controle plug had been drilled out to large to hold the screws and that was why the clamp fell out, he got me the phone # to the TA-185 corpret servic people and told me he could call them for me but it would be better if i delt with them direct. i said no problem and made the call
this is where the problems started. and probly why you got sent to a local service center. apearently local sales people (or internet sales people) cant just request parts, they have to be seen by a authorized service center, then the service center can call to request the needed parts, so i had to take the foot controle to rochester to show them it was broken as the TA people would not take my word for it. i had to send them the part or take it to a service center. well i did not want to send off my foot controle i wanted to be able to use it wile waiting on the part and the service center is 100mile round trip. the service guy was nice enough to make the call unseen and TA sent him a new foot controle then called me in to exchange it. so even if i had bought it at my LWS they would have done the same thing send me to rochester to a service center because they are not authorized to say if something is broken or not. so even if you get a welder localy or threw the internet service, repair work will still need to be done threw an autherized service center and if your local store is not an autherized service center they will not be eny more help than a internet sale, well they might ship the welder out for you insted of you having to take it but it will still need to get to a service center befor any thing can be done.
my guess would be this stems form people that do not have a clue how to weld trying to get a working welder replaced because it dosent work when they are using solid wire without gas, or have the setting all messed up and its operator not the welder thats the problem.
so after dealing with a repair isue, and talking with several repair people and places, i give IOC an A+ on after sale service. i could have mailed the peddle back to him and he would have maile it to TA but by him giving me the phone #'s needed and alowing me to do it localy saved me down time as i could still use the controle wile waiting for the new one, and i got a good look into the repair process. and i can tell ya its not as simple as just give me a new one, even right out of the box.
after the repair expereance i will be giving IOC all my future buisness, i think he did the best he could in my situation. witch is the same thing my LWS did when i took it to him, he said it had to go to rochester, just as IOC said.
i have a new foot control now and all is good.

Geez ... that sorta knocks the MM140 out of the " Christmas Gift " budget range. Maybe I can get a discounted MM135


Good thing what you ordered from came working and fully functional. Not sure what your opinion would be had one of them been DOA. But then again after reading about someone else's problem with a plasma cutter that was 'ordered', I will keep with picking large items up locally, even if locally is a 200 mile road trip!

Hmm, I think I know who you are talking about ;-) I agree, IOC got the last penny it will ever see from me. I thought all the places near me only dealt with Industrial clients. I was wrong. From now on, I will be buying locally, even if it means spending an extra hundred bucks.

IOC has them listed on there site at $715 free shipping the MM180 is only $742 free shipping
for the $27 diference i would go for the MM180 unless you dont have 220V power.
the MM140 &180 were just released in my area on the 17th of this month so it may be a wile befor lots of feedback is available but what i have herd is goo. they give the option to remove the WST if you do not like it or use it if you do, that seemed to be the only complaint with the MM135/175's i have had the MM135 for about 5 years and its been a great welder no complaints at all. back when i got it there was a $300 diference between the MM135& the 175 i supose the new electronics for the WST on off option has raised the $$ a bit but would expect it to be just a relyable as the old modle, meaning you should have no problems with it and be a happy camper for many years to come.

i got my MIG,TIG, and plasma cutter threw them, great service and pricees. called them up with my CC# and had it at my door in 2 days 3 days for one of them but i called late in the day, like 5 PM

I used to be a fan of IOC. The prices are good, the shipping is fast and free, and the service before the deal (asking questions) is good. However, I just made my last purchase from them. I bought a new Spectrum 375 and had problems out of the box. They didn't want to hear about it. All he said was "Well I sell lots of them and have never had a problem, so take it to a service center." Given that attitude, that will be the last purchase I ever make from them.

If you look closely you'll see that the $715 MM 140 is the unit with Auto-Set. I imagine the standard MM 140 will be less expensive.

What the devil is " Auto-Set " ??? Is this where the machine sets wire speed to track voltage set by the user?

heheh ... I broke the bank in buyint the MM210 .... now we are gonna squeeze the penny so hard on buying a 120V unit that Lincoln is gonna cry from the pain!!!
