I am a noobie welder but I have found the bar I welded on for c clamps and vice grips very useful and less cluter another modifed and stolen Idea from welding forum sites.
"]If you get your information from one place you have plagiarized, if you get it from many sources it research.

Why so Tall?
First time poster, be gentle...
Just curious, why are all the carts so tall?
I have a Millermatic 150 on it's original cart, and it would fit under my bench if I didn't have a 80 ft^3 tank. I have been thinking of building a cart and laying the tank tank fown under it. The added length would package a nice gun, ground and power cord reel in front of the unit.
I just got a used ESAB PCM 875 plasma and the cart it came on leaves the lines pretty messy and hanging out, so that's gonna get changed probably to a single side or top reel. I'm one of those guys that likes to make stuff out of busted car parts, I'd love to find a bent 10" racing wheel to make my reel out of.
I guess I find it more useful to be able to tuck the welder and plasma under the bench when not needed. I am constantly running out of space in the shop, and lack the wall space for carts like all of you have built. DOn't get me wrong, all of them are very nice. Lots of thought put into all of them, just a philosophical Q.

Mine is taller because I do most of my welding standing up or sitting on a stool so I put it at waist height. It's much easier to fine tune if you don't have to bend down every time to change settings. Another way is to locate it on the cart with a deep pitch so the face is just under the highest allowable point for it's storage location but the controls are still within easy reach.

Same here for comfort. I like it a lot better now than when it was lower. It easier to fine tune the setting as I weld and believe me I need all the help I can get when I weld. But I can under stand the storage thing, you just have to way all the variable, then over ride them and do what the heck you want to.

Beertestr
welcome,
most build taller carts to acomodate where they weld. if its too low you always end up bending over to ajust things, especily if you do most of your welding standing at the teble or bench. but as always the reason for building your own is to get what works best for you, for some its tall for others its low to get under the work bench it all depends on what works for ya. lets see your design i'm shore there are some out there needing them under the counter also.thanks for the help
