The inspiration for this project came from the video below where a guy used HF boxes in place of Sortimo ones and built a wooden cabinet to put them in. I too used HF boxes that I got on sale for 6 bucks a piece. The cabinet, however, is much more compact being made from 16g HR steel. It measures only 30.5" high.
The cabinet is an egg crate design. Each shelf has tabs that fit into slots on the sides. I created a CSV file that I imported into PlasmaCAM software. Slots were also cut in the back of the shelves for easy bending on a bend brake to create a lip which provides a stop for the boxes as well as lateral strength. The tabs of each shelf were MIG welded into the sides.
