The worst of the worst thread

After watching the welding video posted by welderman23, I got an idea for a worst of the worst thread. Maybe if it takes off we could make it a sticky?

This thread will be nothing more than a what not to do kinda post. I'll start off with several of the fine items that have shown up at my door in the past or a few others that I have seen.

1st pic's are a repair job on a dump truck tailgate

Here's the pic's of a guy that was looking for a job, said he had something like twenty years of experience building trailers. Well here's his test welds. These were 6011 and 6013 rods.

Holy cow did you say some one tried to weld this or did they throw hot molten metal at it hoping it would stick to it? what on earth is this person doing with a welding whip in there hand? trying to weld some thing like that and thinking its a good job or it will do for now? I hope who ever did these welds DO NOT WELD FOR A LIVING? because they will starve to death from lack of work or law suits because of work. Have you got any more pics like this one?(lol) this kind of stuff cracks me up.

Ha,ha,ha what the heck is he testing for? how much of a gap from weld bead to actuall part is needed or some thing more technically challenged(lol) can this guy teach me to be this good, I think I can really weld with some good teaching methods.

DANG - LOL, I better go check my trailers that I bought before I started welding, hope he didn't have a hand in them.

Maybe he meant his job was putting the boards on the deck.

i could do better than that with silly putty, wire coat hanger and a 9volt battery


.........this reminds me of my old boss ,he would say to hurry up by cranking up the amps/volts ,and "burn in" the rods. And we put up structural steel !!!!!!

dabar39............welds need to breathe thus all the gaps or maybe these are
the crumple zones. Simply wonderful.

I can't be the only one that gets this type of work

There's got to be a few of you guys out there that has gotten a job or two to repair someone else's mess. Well anyways here's a couple more for your viewing pleasure.


This is a home built trailer that I took in as a trade in on a new trailer. The only reason I took the trade in was to get it off the streets for good. It was cut up into scrap within minutes of the customer leaving the shop.

Here's an axle that the customer thought that maybe I could just weld it back together for them. This is from a boat trailer carrying a small 14' fiberglass boat, it made it to Fl. from New Hampshire before it broke.

Woooow. Just further proof why ya just cant cut anybody loose with a welding machine And why good craftsmen are still needed
