3-axles leads me to believe you’re going for a 21,000-lb trailer?


You may want to reconsider this!


The major trailer manufactures use 12-inch x 19-pound S-shapes for their gooseneck in a 14,000-pound trailer. You maybe pushing you luck with 10-inch WF, unless you’re going with something like 10 X 22 where the flange is 5 3/4-inches wide. A 10 X 15-pound WF only has a 4-inch wide flange. You might want to consult an engineer!

Im using 3 5200# axles and I am going for 12,000-13,000 gvwr. The flange looks to be 4 inch, might be a tick over if im not mistaken. I only went with this since I copied the basic design from something I saw, that used 8" channel. I figure the trailer with cars should weigh between 10,500 and 11,000 pounds probably 10,500. I may try to check with an engineer if you guys think it wont be enough for a 12,000-13,000 gvwr trailer.

I used to place mine 1' back of center. I will give you a good tip. Weld your spring hangers on some 1/2"x3" flat bar and assemble your axles and tires as a rolling assembely then you can roll the whole unit under your trailer frame and move them around to what looks right. Then just weld the flatbar to the beam...Bob

I just received the steel for the 32ft gooseneck triple axle trailer I am going to build and I have a few questions. I have repaired many trailers, and built a couple small ones, but never built a 32 footer, so is there a formula for where to place the axles exactly? I figure with three axles there should be about 16 or so ft to the beginning of the first tire, and about 8ft or so behind the last tire. But Im not sure. Also, I planned to use (4) 32ft pieces of 6"x 10.5# channel (.314 thick web) spaced 14" apart and 1/8 diamond plate runners. Does that sound strong enough? The cars weigh 3200 lbs each.

My gooseneck tongue will be 10" x 15 lb(Ithink) wide flange I beams.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
