Need some help

I have a chance to look at several older Miller welders that a local company is going to sell. I want to get into TIG welding but can't seem to find what model numbers allow what kind of welding process. The machines I'm asking about are

Miller Goldstar 300SS

Miller SR-200

Maxatron 450

These machines come with no cabling or the like, just the welder. In short can I TIG weld with any of the above welders. All are in pretty good shape, but I don't want to look like a complete idiot when I go to put money down on them. Any help would be welcomed.

You should do an internet search for these. It should give you all the info you need. Just remember, it may be worth spending a little more on a new machine that is fully equipped than to buy the unknown.

Don't know about the SR-200 but the other Goldstar is 3 phase and a stick machine so it will do DC scratch start TIG. The maxtron 450 is the precursor to the XMT, it was available with a pulse GMAW option it is also DC TIG only. There were 3 phase models only I think. I also think it might have a lift arc TIG mode. I wouldnt mid owning both but I would use neither for TIG and I also have 3 phase power.

Thanks for the information. I have to go with an older machine due to cost issues. THe problem I have is I don't know which of the older models is capable of doing TIG welding. I see Miller welders for sale in different auctions but I don't know the model numbers well enough yet to tell right away which is a standard Arc welder and which can be used for TIG. Again I'm limited to the older welders due to cost and my limited experience.

Like I said you can TIG with either machine or any CC machine. You will probably need 3 phase and will be limited to scratch start DC TIG. You would need to buy a regulator, cylinder of Argon, and an aircooled torch with a valve at a minimum. If you wanted remote, you would need to purchase a foot pedal also.
