Does anybody know of where you can get certifications for aluminum? I am in Seattle and am looking for tig and mig certs. I am WABO(Washington Association of Building Officals) certified for flux-core but they don't do aluminum.

Unlike steel Aluminum has no prequalified welding procedures (re AWS D1.1 - D1.3)
So to carry an aluminum certification first you would need a qualified procedure then to test to that procedure.
The fact that no prequalified procedures exist for aluminum necessitates contractors to establish and qualify procedures for each joint (once the essential variables have been exceeded). So project "A" might need several procedures, project "B" might only need one.
My question to you is why are you looking for this cert?

No specific reason I am looking for the cert, but I would like to be certified for as much stuff as possible. Also something my company can throw at customers. I've seen job ads that mention aluminum certs with the Coast Guard but I havn't been able to find anything.Welders do it hotter!!

Cut yourself some coupons and weld them in whatever position you want or are going to be needing and then mail them to the AWS or Hobart Institute for a bend-test. For additional information on Aluminum Certs, PM SundownIII and ask him where he sends his people for testing.sigpic
