I am looking for a good stick welder thats portable and has enough power to handle everything from hobby to light industrial work. I have been looking at the Miller Max Star 150 S, anyone have experience with this machine? Is there a better set-up in the $600.00 to $800.00 price range than this model?

Maxstar 150

I have a Maxstar150STL and I love it. It is an excellent choice for portability. Two weeks ago I used mine to patch a leaking water pipe under pressure at a large local venue where two pro sports teams ply their respective trades. It went off without a hitch and that five inch condenser water line is now whole again. Plenty of power, portability, auto-line. What more could you ask? Two thumbs up!!!!

The Maxstar 150 is unbeatable! I have used mine in all kinds of situations where a regular engine driven machine would be out of the question for onsite jobs. It runs on 110 or 220 and will burn rod all day long as smooth as silk. Only shortcoming, if you can call it that, is that it is straight DC. No problem for my use, but there may be times when you need AC.
